I am very angry right now.

I just finished grinding for the 200 shreds of insanity to allow me to craft 470 gear (tailoring) so I can equip my many clothie alts.

Guess what? ALL of the upper level crafted gear is BoP.
I went back to double-check. Yup. All BoP.

Now, I also went back and checked the max level crafted items for every expansion back to WotLK, where I started playing WoW.

In ALL of the previous expansions, the max level crafted gear was BoE.

Now, you might not think this is a big deal, but let me explain:

In order to be able to craft 470 gear, you need Shreds of Insanity. There are only three ways to get them:

  1. Weekly World Boss kill = 1 shred
  2. Raid
    a) Normals give 1 shred per boss downed
    b) Heroics give 10 shreds per boss downed
  3. PvP (battlegrounds, arenas, honorable kills) - I have no idea about the drop rate for PvP as I do not PvP.

By the time you have killed enough bosses (let’s assume you went 100% heroic raiding because it’s the most time efficient) to craft your two 470 items (pants & gloves), you’ll already have 460-465 items from the raiding. AND, you can only wear your own crafted gear.

The only other way to get max level gear is to run Mythic 15+ dungeons. Again, only for the toon running those dungeons.

So, we are now being forced to do heroic level raiding in order to gear up for Mythic 12-15+ dungeons, but the crafted gear can’t be made until you’re ALREADY doing those things and have gear at or above the max level crafted gear, which are now BoP.

Alts are screwed. The only thing that made playing even ONE alt fun was that I could craft some of the gear for each succeeding alt to save time getting THEM maxed out in their crafting profession to provide a boost for the next alt, and so on.

So, Blizzard, why did you change this after nearly 15 years?

Did I miss a meeting or patch note saying this was changing?

I would not have spent the last 3 months grinding away at this first toon’s tailoring had I known this change had been made.

I sincerely hope this was a case of the BoP vs Boe checkboxes being mixed up and you’ll be hot fixing this sooner rather than later.

This seems to be true in every profession, for the last 2 or 3 expansions (several years). The best armor in all 4 types, and even some weapons.

To me it has been disappointing, since my crafters cannot craft the upper level gear and sell it for gold. Crafting things that only the crafter can use/wear is not very useful to me.

But it definitely isn’t something new. As I say, it has been true in every crafting profession for years.

This is almost alliance levels of awareness :stuck_out_tongue:
If only there was some sort of “Unlearned” tab in game that came complete
with tooltips and everything, Blizz, get on that, Shadowlands can wait.
And as Hiawanda said, this isn’t something new.
There’s 8753 posts on how useless/meaningless professions have become.
