The most unlikely thing happened to me yesterday. I was in Winterspring with 2 more players when a mob dropped the sword Destiny, exactly from the next mob dropped the Krol Blade. The chance of this happening given the percentage provided by ClassicDB is 0.000000169%. Another friend of mine has already dropped 4 Epics during his journey and I am seeing in AH many epic items as well. Is this a bug or is the drop rate supposed to be like this?
This is a known thing to happen on fresh servers and happened in classic when they would fire up a brand new server.
First people to get to a grind zone usually got a bunch of BoE epics.
It dies down after a while.
That’s fascinating, I wonder what causes it.
more people killing more mobs= higher chance of seeing them drop.
or it could be a freak occurance.
Nothing to worry about really since ALOT of them are pure trash.
If this behaviour is well known then it’s clearly a flaw in the design of the RNG.
Not sure to be honest.
I think it’s either a setting for new servers, or the drop rates get increased when there is a low amount of a certain item in circulation.
Nothing out of the ordinary. Biased people reaching false conclusions.
We don’t have enough data to say one way or another if anything strange is going on here.
Speak for yourself man.
ok ill join the illuminati on this one!!!
just had a robe of the archmage drop for me in tanaris in a random footlocker.
2 days ago buddy got bow of searing arrows. guildies have been flexing their world drops.
Either one of two things is happenening.
- RNG is turned up insanely high
- the amount of people playing today vs the small % back then just makes the drop rates seem inflated and they’re actually the same.
That just sounds like freak luck, but in general world drops were much higher in 1.12 than earlier versions of vanilla too. Plus with newer hardware (and everyone’s beloved layering) there can be as many as 20,000 players on a server, where vanilla was supposedly capped around 5,000. Four times as many players = four times the world drops and why the AH is full of them perhaps…
Yeah never thought of the layering.
It was common to see a large influx of BoE epics on fresh servers when people got to 40, but not that many epics as there are now.
this right here is the answer.
Probably blizz messing the coding.
I got a boe epic in ungoro as well.
But the AH is mostly messed up by all the layers
I will say I feel like blue BoEs seem a tad high but not really 100% sure. I got twink gloves (banked those) off a mob then a couple day later got thunderwood (crap) which I sold and also got a mediocre 2H mace which I can’t seem to sell.
The sword from BFD also dropped but seeing as I was going to farm corpsemaker next I didn’t need it so I didn’t get it. Not entirely the same scenario as the above world drops anyways.
I got the 39 boe 2hnd sword that launches the 200dd, yeah, im a shaman…
melee hunter is holding onto it for now.
hoping his drool doesnt rust it.
HUNTER LOOT !
Oh guy down the path got a boe 1hnd sword same thing, both are epics, level 39.
It’s pretty cool.
I’ve noticed this as well. I have gotten more BOE blues while leveling than in my entire WoW career.
Bug? Or a normal way
Blizzard has confirmed (I wish I could find good sources) that loot tables in raid instances are determined on zone-in when the mobs are spawned, and use RNG calculations based on timestamp and character ID of the raid leader. Which kind of checks out; I don’t know about y’all, but my raid, which is led by the same person at the same time every week, tends to see remarkably similar drops week after week. Call me superstitious, but I’m a believer in “loot seed” theory.
I wonder if open world mobs rely more heavily on spawn time for loot table rolls. That would mean that mobs that spawned simultaneously could be much more likely to spawn drops of similar rarity. That could account for the statistically unlikely number of anecdotes I’ve heard about people getting literally two epics in a row.
There are addons that show mob age in the tooltip (MobInfo2 is the one I use for Wrath and it isn’t working in HC), which could be an interesting tool for the superstitious among us who, after getting an epic, might want to kill all other mobs in that zone with a similar spawn time.
Also confirmed is an increase in forums necro from spazlords…
