Body Type Customization

Whenever character customization comes up, inevitably I will see comments about how other games have “sliders,” so you can make your character taller, shorter, fatter, thinner or more curvaceous.

And then follows the argument that WoW is too old and it would be nigh impossible to implement, which I think is probably a fair, if disappointing assessment.

So I was thinking, which is dangerous, I know, since I don’t know a lot about the back end programming and designing, but it seems to me we already have several body types available.

Let’s say you wanted a built-like-a-brick-outhouse human. Instead of incorporating sliders, what if you could choose a draenei torso? Armor is already designed for the skeleton, so maybe something like this would work?

I’m not sure how difficult swapping hands and feet would be, honestly, but I thought I’d throw some chum in the water.

Mismatching limbs from different races in character customisation sounds terrifying.

Distinct options work, sliders don’t.

They aren’t gonna let you just swap a torso or head of another race, though, that’s silly and too much modelling work for a bunch of abomination models.

I want a draenei male torso, with vulpera arms and legs, and a tuskar head.

This has been often requested, but I’m also fairly certain due to WoW’s engine being based on skeletons for their models it will also explode if that happens.

Until WoW 2, if that ever happens, I simply don’t think it’s not a possibility.

I want a tauren body with a vulpera tail with night elf ears and a blood elf head

You want this?

I know you’re talking about chunky, thin, and buff body types, but I was just musing about how I wish DKs had the option to have a more undead body not unlike the nightfallen. I thought they looked super neat!

Getting all character meshes to work on a single model would be a nightmare. At best we could hope for something like Dracthyr has. Where you can choose between different sizes.

Although for the regular races it would probably be a bit more limited seeing as they wear armor. So the difference between each body type would have to be smaller. Alternatively, Blizzard could also go for something a bit more interesting and give each of the, say 4 body types, different “styles”.

Using Belves as an example. Option 1 would be the normal one. Option 2 would be a bit more muscular. Option 3 could be slightly withered. Option 4 would be a bit curvier than the standard model.

I can just picture the Light forsaken monstrosities that would roam Azeroth and may not sleep tonight.

That uh… that wouldn’t work out very well.

There could be a thing though of how they did it with the dracthyr and having numbers of 1 2 3 4 or more with preset functions etc that a person just clicks.

I wouldn’t mind a voice picker either.

What on earth?!

Where’s my Kul Tiran female body type for Dracthyr Blizz?

SWTOR has it but most people end up picking the skinny/average options anyways

Edit: omg the necro…

Fat Blood Elves or riot.
