Boar charge Auto-Engagement no longer working while pet is set to passive does not feel good.
Passive means it won’t do anything until you tell it to. If charge is set to auto and it can charge and it has the focus to use the ability it will. Ctrl-1 or whatever you want to add for petattack works. Or macro /petattack
You can also set it to aggressive and hope for the best.
However, hunter pets are currently bugged it seems so maybe the button for bug feedback in game will work.
yeah, the pet AI is pretty janky right now, but the boar charge change seems intentional…
Passive means it won’t attack unless told to. Once it’s attacking, it should use its abilities if they are on auto cast. Right now boar Charge is doing a few things:
- It’s not using charge as soon as it’s in range to do so. In any stance.
- Clicking charge to send the pet in does activate the charge as soon as it’s in range.
- Clicking charge while already in range will properly activate boar charge.
I just tested the above, and compared it to my cat. Cat uses all combat abilities as it’s supposed to, even on passive, as it should.
I’m seeing the same issue, but it isn’t limited to Passive mode. Toastyrip has already covered most of this, but I tested all of the possible scenarios and compared the behavior to Classic.
1. Assist / Defensive Mode
a. Click Pet Attack → No Charge —
Not expected
b. Click Charge → Charge works and pet auto attacks —
Expected
c. I attack first → Charge works and pet auto attacks —
Expected
2. Passive Mode
a. Click Pet Attack → No Charge —
Not expected
b. Click Charge → Charge works, but the pet does not auto-attack —
Not expected compared to Classic
c. I attack first → No Charge and the pet does not auto-attack —
Expected
The main issue appears to be that using Pet Attack does not trigger Charge, regardless of whether the pet is in Assist/Defensive or Passive mode.
Additionally, in Passive mode, manually using Charge causes the pet to Charge but does not cause it to begin auto-attacking afterward, which differs from the behavior in Classic.
21/09/2026 Auto Charge is still not working in any stance.
Have confirmed that Charge works in dungeons with Growl turned off.
24/09/2026 OK, after testing, Charge works, but not when you send your pet in i.e. macro /petattack.
With assist turned on, when you engage the target by shooting at it, your pet runs toward the target automatically and will self-use Charge automatically.
It’s still an issue. You want to send in your pet to attack and gain aggro before you engage, but when you do that, charge doesn’t engage unless you manually click charge.
I’ve been finding another issue but I can’t figure out how to replicate it yet. Might be an intermittent thing.
I keep pet on passive, and often send it to attack the next mob before the first one dies. For some reason, when the pet is already on its way to the next mob, and the first mob dies, the pet will return to my side. This is what would normally be happening under the current defensive mode stance, but it’s also happening on passive.
Defensive mode is pissing me off, because this happens every time. Which, I’m unsure if that’s working as intended, because a mob dying should not erase the pet attack command you’ve already given. Not sure if this is how the retail mechanic works though?
