Bnet app auto runs a "security check" randomly

game runs fine. all accounts are fine.

that being said, I will cold boot pc and after logging into windows, anytime during the day the PC is on and online and bnet is running, I will see a rectangular popup window on lower right side of screen and it’s pretty fast but I can just make out “SECURITY CHECK” then it poofs away. it has the bnet colors of blue and black.

I’ve tried searching inside the forums for anything similar and on google but to no avail.

is this a new thing from blizz or is it someone trying to access my bnet account?

is PC not laptop. runs on CAT6 cable not wireless. again as mentioned, zero issues with computer.

I see the same message window from time to time as well. If I had to take a guess, it’s probably just doing something similar to a DRM check where it’s cross-referencing unique identifying system information to make sure that it’s still running on an authorized machine.

But it could also just be some server end thing where they “lease” authentication to your PC for some period of time before having to reauthorize. Kind of like lease times on IPs on your router.

I hope so, last thing I want to do is scrub my system and start over.

This is been a flash every time I start up.
It first displays the normal log in box.
Then it removes the password and dismisses that box.
A box will then flash a security check.
Then opens Battle.net
I will look back in my history for the first time it did the dance.

Yes, this is normal to come up briefly every time. I suspect it has to do with the authenticator and verifying if the PC you’re on is authorized to not need an authenticator code.

Update today for Battle.net fixed the issiue for the one and only log in after…updating Battle.net. With the little green icon on the blue Windows smile…
oh Battle.net wow at ver… 10,1.7.51421
thanks for the fix… ran twice. without the box popping up.
good luck… have fun.

it’s back…
ver 10.1.7.51421
does the same as described above.

everytime? odd since it just started 8 days ago. and didn’t happen in all of 18 years.

blizz added something without adding any notes about it

I wonder if it has anything to do with.
This account has not played in 60 days…only forum logged into.
My other account I play…
That is the account the box pops up on when I start Battle.net
Battle.net has a forum on the beta side.
link to … showBetaPatchNotes … that is when you click on Beta.
If you want to read the notes flip to Beta on the Battle.net desktop app and go see the news…

I see they added overwatch on the 10th of Aug and to steam…

Home…edit
yes the box popped again…
Updated again…
This was odd.
Ver. 10.1.7.61485

It’s really not a big deal… I mean they could just change a couple lines of code and you’d never see the UI elements again, meanwhile they’d still be doing the exact same thing under the hood anyways.

Well, this thread is interesting. After all these years playing World of Warcraft, I have an authenticator setup to use on my pc for my game, and never have I ever seen that pop up on my screen, until about 5 minutes ago when I logged into my game.

I was logged into the game earlier today and that message did not show up but after several hours of not being in the game, I get this:

SECURITY CHECK
(with arrows > like this moving across underneath that text)

It is doing it regardless of Beta or not with me. Every time. Three bands now.

Security check...security check...security check.

I have sms on the account that I am logging into, but not a athentator(sp).

This account is only on this phone and never logged off…also sink to this phone by sms…

New icon on the Battle.net bar today.
Add for 50% off sale. I am happy just playing what I already paid for 3 times…
At this time…I do not have the time to play anyway. Funny I posted awhile back that I might buy when it hit 50%…just did not expect it to be untill Dec…

Have fun…good luck.

in a way it is a big deal. i want to be sure it is an auto request from bnet and not some app piggybacking.

It’s battlenet… Just a different window it can spawn. Kind of like sometimes once it’s open and there’s the window popup for news of a big game or expansion coming out. That’s why I said that if they wanted to, they could make it so you never see it at all.

I believe this started when they moved from the old authenticator app to the battle.net app. That’s when it started for me (which was the second time I logged in since I just returned a little less than a month ago). I do not remember noticing it the first time I logged on when I still had the old authenticator.

I believe this window is battle.net checking to see if authenticator approval is required, or if the PC you’re using is already recognized. It’s not a big deal. I see it every time I launch battle.net (sometimes it’s only for a fraction of a second, sometimes it’s longer).

It’s 100% is a big deal! I get DC’d from D2R when ever this happens, lost some hardcore characters to this,

There’s another thread about this too. Based on guild experience it may be related to Bell Aliant ISP?

I keep getting this pop-up which often causes me to D/C from Hearthstone. Also causes any steam game to go minimum when it does the security check. Very frustrating…
