My hunter is level 62 and I’m still using the bat I got at the start. I spammed dungeons to 60 in early legion when it was twice as fast. I would like to pick up some cool pets that are good for fast solo questing in Outland.
Next question. Example. if I get a level 30 cat will it have less skills than a level 55 cat? I will start questing in Outland while I queue for dungeons. What are some cool pets good for solo questing?
Lastly, are some pets better specifically for dungeons? Thx.
So, the easiest answer is “get whatever pet you want.”
It literally doesn’t matter anymore.
Bat is best for dungeons as it has the list/magic removal effect.
No matter what level the pet originally was, once you tame it, it becomes your level when you call it.
I had a pet that I tamed when I was level 55 and I stuck it in my stable and forgot about it. At 120 when I looked at the pet in my stable, it still said it was level 55. I added it to my set of 5 and called it and immediately it became 120.
Other than your bm hunter must be level 60 or 65 to tame exotic pets, there aren’t any level-restricted pet skills. A pet has access to all the abilities it could ever have immediately regardless of your level.
There aren’t any dedicated dungeon, pvp, or whatever pets. Personally I use spirit beasts (tenacity pets) in dungeons. If I know I’m going to need primal rage (because there’s no mage or shaman), I just switch to a ferocity pet before the boss pull. After the boss is dead, back to the spirit beast.
Clefthoof, an exotic ferocity pet, is the best open world pve pet because of how insanely tanky they are.

For solo questing you are looking for a Scalehide until you get Exotic Beast Training. Then you tame a Clefthoof as it is currently the best pet tank in the game. Core Hounds are an option for more damage but they can’t tank as well.
As Tinkerrific stated, the pet’s level scales with yours so you don’t have to worry about levels with taming (except you can’t tame a pet above your level). However, Primal Rage isn’t unlocked until level 65 and Master’s Call isn’t unlocked until 74.
For BM, Spirit Beasts are the best for dungeons as they have the purge and a heal. Stags and Cranes are good for non-BM. However, if no one in the group has a Bloodlust effect then it is best to have a Bat or Nether Ray as they have a purge and Primal Rage after 65.
