BM Hunter question

I’m just curious as to what I’m doing wrong? I am 271 ilvl with both 291 legendaries in appropriate slots. Most of my gear is bis and I understand my rotation( or so I thought). I’ve did Anduin on heroic, but the last few guild raids I’m just not pumping the dps I am used to. What has me concerned is a 264 BM Hunter is producing close to the same. I use sim and I’m running everything recommended lol. Does anyone have advice or an online guide so I can figure it out? Any info or help would be appreciated. Sorry this is so long. Nothing toxic please. I am wanting to get better

Can’t really give you pointers without a log.

(edit: didn’t notice the note that you’re in bis. Also be prepared for an onslaught of “reroll survival” comments)

Play SV if you want to do ridiculous damage. It’s tier set and Legendary make it far op to BM. You’re stuck playing melee but you be doing lot more damage.

Annnnddddd there it is.

Also marksmanship on heroic is right up there with, if not better than survival. My experience with MM on heroic andy has been great, feels a lot better than BM. But if OP wants advice for BM, then BM advice I’ll try to give.

  • What pet do you have?
  • What talents?
  • Are your talents all passive or can you multitask enough to macro active ones instead?
  • Is your pet on überauto-mode or -
  • Do you have your pet talents on-demand and macro’d so you can use it/them as your second weapon?

you wont get anything real posting ON DK

What does your secondary stats look like? The other BM hunter might be more optimized or different/better trinkets.

You got me op. Thought this was another ragemode thread lol

Or maybe it is. Hmmm

Start with sharing your BM profile first so we know if you have bad setups. What stats are you at ? What trinkets are you using? How is your Weapon? What Covenant/Conduits/Talents are you using?

On me, I got outdps’d humiliated by a fellow MM with me at higher ilevel. I knew why.
He had 4pc bonus and I didnt have any. That’s when I started spamming all content sources that drop a tier gear.

Can’t really help you just just knowing your ilvl.

Without logs, nothing really we can do to help.

Are you keeping Frenzy up? Proper usage or empowered cobra and multi shot? Do you have all or your abilities macro’d with the pet attacks in them? The pets are pretty dumb.
/use [@pettarget]Claw
/use [@pettarget]Bite
/use [@pettarget]Smack
Correct covenant? What got me last tier was an incorrect soul bind. I didn’t realize it switched to the first one every time you did a covenant swap.

Thanks for the reply! I tried posting the log link, but for whatever reason it will not let me post links in chat lol. Thrainli is my BM hunter. I guess I’ll just scour over the logs and see what I’m doing wrong. I’m using wild spirits to start and then casting it during the phase with the Fallen King. It really seems my problem is going down(phase 1.5?). I think I need to practice keeping my dps going while I’m trying to trap one of the targets when my group goes to the Banished Realm. But another problem I’m seeing in the dps addon tracker is a few other hunters are getting crazy damage during The Fallen King. Maybe I’m not casting wild spirits at the right time? I’m waiting for all the Fiendish souls to release before casting

Surround a link with ` (the key above tab) to post it.

It will look like.this

I am keeping frenzy up. The beginning of that fight I’m always topping the dps. But it’s phase 1.5 when I’m falling off and I’m not certain I’m casting wild spirits at the most effective moment during The Fallen King phase. I’m casting it during the phase, but I’m not sure it’s right lol. I also could have been casting multi shot too often because I was worrying about beast cleave being up during that phase. I mean I have definitely been keeping it up, but I guess I could be using other spells during that 8-9 seconds?

My hunter is Thrainli. I didn’t realize it had my profile using a character I never actually use lol. I apologize

I’m no expert at reading wowlogs, but based on this one, there are a few things that stand out when compared to the other hunter in your group:
https://www.warcraftlogs.com/reports/rZWcTD4wAQxGyNRP#fight=3

  • He had 18 casts of Bestial Wrath to your 15.
  • He got 3 casts of Wild Spirits off to your 2, and he lined them all up with his Aspect of the Wild. That’s a massive damage loss for you.
  • He used one more potion, and lined both of his up with his big Spirits/Aspect cds.

Someone else might be able to help you better, but it seems like you just need to work on your cooldown usage.

The big thing I noticed is that you split your aspect of the wild from wild spirits in the 1st intermission.

With your setup, a better CD usage for anduin would be
Aspect + WS on pull,
Aspect+WS+sigil+pot in I1 (2:50 or so)
aspect+WS as soon as they come back up (4:50)
Aspect + WS in I2 (6:50]
Then aspect+WS+sigil+pot if they come back up

In terms of wild spirits, the log does not register your first cast of it, which I believe you said was used on pull. You’re casting it about 4-5 seconds before the other hunter every time.

Aside from CD syncing as others have mentioned, if I’m reading the log correctly, they have better beast cleave uptime during LK.

My tips

  1. Sync CDs. Make sure you have everything when casting wild spirits.
  2. Watch beast cleave timers, if it’s up there isn’t a need to cast multishot for a bit, and less multishots while the passive is up = more globals to cast better dmg abilities. Multishot does poor damage and drains your focus, so casting it when beast cleave isn’t about to expire is a waste of a global.

For LK, sync all CDS. Keep beast cleave at as close to 100% uptime as possible, and get it up earlier. While it’s up, do your ST rotation. Don’t cast multishot too often. I don’t think the timing of casting WS is horrible on your end, but try casting it later like the other hunter and see what happens.

That’s pretty much all that stuck out to me.
