I am ilvl 350, and know the rotations etc and i am getting DESTROYED by fury warriors, havok DH and even ele shammys… I am doing like 25k dps compared to 50k for fury and DH
i know atm we are B tier but it still seems very low
Just wondering how everyone else feels atm with BM’s standings and if maybe i am missing something?
Tier lists are subjective and entirely useless in general. It’s just how the person making the list feels about the specs.
As for BM, I think most of us are having the same issue. It’s hard to quantify though, because every class/spec gets benefit from secondary stats, but the low haste we are seeing with the stat squish is killing our ability to keep Frenzy stacks up. This results in far below expected DPS.
That being said, there are still too many bugs to know if BM is going to be good throughout the expansion.
I’ve noticed this too, as have my friends. It was kinda funny, I was looking at the charts and was constantly lagging behind in aoe and I was gonna complain about it when they were like, ‘what’s your ilvl’ lol and yeah. I’m not sure. Single target I do fine, not great but fine, aoe I’m trash. Death Chakrum was trash IMO in SL and still is, which is what we’re supposed to take from what I’ve seen. I really am not happy with BM right now, and even in prepatch I was playing all my alts, got one of each class to 60 in case I had fun with another class/spec.
Well, we only take Death Chakram, because after Alpha Predator the rest are for MM and SV. I think Stampede was supposed to be our node, but it has low damage, poor execution and the 10% crit doesn’t even compare to the straight 10% damage of Death Chakram.
Gotcha, I haven’t looked into talents as in depth as I end up doing since I enjoy making my own build then seeing how it compares to the meta build, but I have been messing around with talents. I wish Stampede was better, but yeah the 10% straight dmg is better.
That’s the thing, not having fun with BM but mobs are dying, albeit not as easily as in SL, but we’re not geared yet so that’s to be expected.
Just because you can get through dungeons doesn’t disregard it not being fun or feeling good. When the group knows what they are doing, it’s a cake walk, when you’re having to figure out mechanics are pull dead weight, not so much.
Seeing as I am not having fun, and for aoe I’m at the bottom but single target I can be on top, meh. Not having fun regardless.
It feels like we are weaker now than before. I’m giving it until I get some gear before I actually start looking for another class as I have heard surv and mm aren’t doing well either.
Yeah. Death Chakram is basically an ‘it’s less bad than the others options’ pick.
Personally I think one of the biggest issues with the way BM feels is that the rotation is completely flat. There’s no burst, no punch, no button I specifically look forward to pressing. On paladin I think “Sweet! Wings time!”, pop Avenging Wrath, and feel like a god for the next 20 seconds. BM is just the normal rotation over and over with nothing to break it up. Even BW has such high uptime that it doesn’t feel special.
I think we would be fine if our haste wasn’t terrible right now.
Low haste and crit means we wont get procs, no resets = higher BW cooldown + less KC resets /stomps also we will constantly drop frenzy stacks too. on top of having massive problems with slow gcds.
BM feels extremely sluggish with the haste i have rn, it only feels ok to play at 25%+
Animal companion is an abomination that needs to die. three expansions of issues. and its still not fixed. it has to cease
there is a laundry list but point being hunter in general at the moment is bottom of the barrel of mediocrity but BM is what you’d equate to the stuff that floats to the surface of mediocrity. its a shame an actual fun expansion is still plagued by such awful class design.
BM usually doesn’t do well early in xpacs because its very haste and crit dependent. It’s also not bursty (even less this xpac than previously) as many pointed out but its design the last 3 xpacs at least has been to deliver consistent damage. That said, I’ve seen BM hold its own damage wise in AOE situations and while it does less well in Single Target it still doesn’t suck.
All those classes have burst CD’s and BM really doesn’t - In most dungeons I’ve been in my overall has been basically in line with them because while they can do big burst on some pulls, i can normally out damage them when they have no CD’s pretty easily.
Not the best feeling end of the day but it is what it is.
The Call of the Wild path seems tailored to BM issues overall, which makes me think it was intended to be the primary path, with everything else secondary. Unfortunately, it’s seriously undertuned and bugged in multiple ways.
It provides a 3 min burst cooldown (assuming it’s tuned appropriately).
Wild Instincts would ensure Frenzy stays up and lots of Kill Command procs during that burst window. Pairs well with Killer Cobra/Piercing Fangs.
Bloody Frenzy was clearly intended to to enhance the Dire Beast path.
Will it get tuned and fixed or will Blizzard just say screw it? Who knows.
still wouldnt really make BM compete in current dungeons with tanks doing giga pulls and you have classes like fury that can throw down spear, reck, ravager, odyn fury or DHs with buffed fel rush, essence break, eye beam, etc nearly every pack. then the BM hunter is just spamming multi shot and kill command every few sec.
I have a question that doesn’t really contribute to the OP, but I can’t find anything on and this is the most recent forum bump for BM. Is Thrill of The Hunt bugged? Regardless of how many stacks you apply the aura given from this talent will display the correct amount of crit increase, but on your stats in character panel your crit does not change at all. This is odd because with any other stat increasing aura in the game (unless there’s one I don’t know of) the stats increase will properly show on the character panel. I even downloaded a few stat tracking addons to double check and the crit did not change when gaining stacks of Thrill of The Hunt. Any help or knowledge would be appreciated ty in advance
I would be more then happy to run a dungeon with you to take a look at what your damage issue is. I have had the opposite experience, as I find ilevel for ilevel , my BM hunter is extraordinarily powerful in dungeons both multi and single target and we have the same ilevel. I am seldom beaten overall, outside of a WW monk. For context, I have also max leveled and cleared M0’s on ele shaman and paladin, so I have quite a bit of experience with playing through these dungeons albeit only being a week old.
Just a few quick notes that I have found to help some struggling BM hunters in the past
remember that kill command cleaves
barbed shots can reset your kill command, so try to always have one or the other usable.
don’t cap focus, but don’t empty it needlessly either. Sometimes it’s ok to “stand there and do nothing” while your focus gets back on track and BS/KC charges reload. Let the pets do what they do!
multi shot procs beast cleave, which is where your AOE damage comes from. It lasts 5 seconds. Depending on your haste, get a feel for how many GCDS you can get in 5 seconds before being able to multi shot again. If you multi shot too early, or too late, it can drastically effect your overall DPS and burst windows on big pulls .
don’t hold bestial wrath. Full send it. Always. It comes back quickly. Sitting on it, and missing out on a couple by end of run is worse than not getting great value out of it.
keep your pets in the “middle” of a pack while aoeing so that all of the mobs get cleaved. You can move your pets to a better spot via Kill command!
remember that beastial wrath gives you two free charges of barbed shot! Don’t pop it when you have 2 charges or you will be wasting them as they do not stack beyond 2!
Again, I would love to help as I really
Do enjoy it. We can run a dungeon or two together and compare. I’m confident i could help you! Take care
