Blood Talons: Consuming Predatory Swiftness = 10 Energy

Energy regen for feral on the ptr is rough compared to rogues. Perhaps blizz could buff the new blood talons to make consuming Predatory Swiftness buff grant 10 energy? Would give some of the Old Blood talons that people liked back into the rotation while fixing a resource problem.

For rogues, passive energy regen and/or energy from active skills like shadow dance gives a lot more control of their rotation than feral druids praying for clearcasting procs. Perhaps adding some active resource gain to the rotation can smooth some of it out?

No thanks!

You’re right, energy regen is fine what was I thinking.

Baseline energy regen could be tweaked up in early expansion (though we have Tiger’s Fury to help), but what tf has that got to do with an optional talent and utility?

So we’re back using utility for dps gains?

No…
That concept is not needed!

Edit:

There’s a difference between not agreeing with your garbage idea, and understanding if energy regen is fine (or not).

Agreed, but “no thanks” didn’t add anything to the conversation whereas your reply did.

I’m cool with not using utility for dps gains, just throwing out some ideas to help fix what feels bad atm. It seems combo points will be easier to get with the SL leveling perks and the reworked beserk, but waiting on energy for FB’s with low crit feels really bad. Idk maybe the conduit giving energy on rip ticks will solve our problem but everyone is in a “pick a new main for SL” and i really want the feral druid to be an option for me. It was the fantasy which got me playing this game 14 years ago and I want the spec to be more cared for than it seems to be. I dont want the spec to remove pooling elements or make it super spammy but it does feel too dry atm, and i dont think classes should require Bis borrowed powers to feel playable.

Feral has just moved away from having utility through PS procs to activate part of their snapshotting (a dps gain). While it was an optional talent, it had segmented the community into toxicity. Now that it has gone, there will be kneejerk reactions to the very notion of introducing utility for dps again. Of which, can be understandable.

While “no thanks” can be a little vague, it is polite, considering the circumstances of what the spec has gone through to move away such mechanics.

Again, there are times at low gear levels, and between Tiger’s Fury CD’s that energy can feel low, but we/the devs need to be very careful in suggesting that it could be rectified through utility.

As much as it pains me to say, borrowed power will mostly fix this. You’ll be looking at legendaries, conduits and soulbinds to improve your energy. I would suggest the MoC legendary and combine it with Bloodtalons. Its working quite well on beta.

And thats the huge problem. Borrowed power shouldn’t be what makes a class playable. Im trying to pick a new main for SL as most people are, and making a decisions based of of lvl 50 ptr is all most people can do right now. So frustrating.

Unfortunately, with Blizzard’s current design philosophy, every spec is reliant on borrowed power in one way or another.

I hop on the ptr and fury warrior, Outlaw, sub, Those feel really good to play with crap gear at lvl 50. Base mechanics/interactions are present and they have the means to achieve their niche/role. Feral is just waiting pooling for bite then waiting pooling to make sure you get enough energy to cast 3 things in a row within 4 seconds, then waiting for a bite, then waiting to wait some more.

As far as I’ve seen, Feral has always been focused on pooling energy. It may not be the way some people want to play a spec, but that’s literally how you play it. As long as the numbers are good compared to all the other dps, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with it. Both Feral and Rogues as a whole have some degree of energy pooling to them and focus on some period of burst damage. If anything Outlaw probably has the least of that I can admit. That’s just how these energy classes play.

If energy does not ever restrict you in any way, what is the point of energy? If I always have enough energy no matter what I do, they might as well remove that mechanic altogether.

I know I might be in the minority or alone, but I wouldn’t mind seeing a rework for feral, and just completely scrapping energy giving them there own unique resource, I personally don’t like the pooling and would rather see them play like a fury or havoc, lol no joke.

That’d definitely be a topic of passionate debate. On one hand, it would be fantastic to see an innovative, smooth and enjoyable design that differs from anything in-games. While I am terrified at the thought of messing it up, I’d like to see so a big shake up for druid. The other hand, are players that’d like to preserve this playstyle.

Feral and Guardian are outdated, and would like to at least see some work on the issues in utility and synergies.

Still want it to be a rot based spec, just builder spender, have shred be single target builder and swipe/ thrash aoe builder, rake, rip and bite the spenders. Then play with talents to stay rot based or focus more on bites.

That’s … what we currently are.

Saying you want a class like “Fury Warrior or Havoc” but then also saying “I want it to be a rot spec”. Those two are completely different

Your right I guess something that flows like fury or havoc but is still rot I just always want a button to hit not a fan of pooling

Ah yes. The way to differentiate Feral and make it unique is to make it just like Fury and Havoc. I understand now.

Taking my tongue out of my cheek for a moment, energy-based classes are the exception, not the rule. Outside of Rogue you won’t find the playstyle anywhere else. I don’t understand why people are so intent on forcing Feral to confirm to other melee playstyles when they could just… play those other classes?

If you don’t like the philosophy of an energy-based class that’s fine, don’t play an energy class. But you also have to recognize that energy-based classes are not supposed to cast on the GCD. While other specs are limited by how many GCDs they get over the course of a fight, Ferals and Rogues are limited by how much energy they have over the course of a fight. Both classes are locked to a 1.0s GCD (far faster than what other classes have) so when they do move, they move faster than other classes. That’s the point, to alternate between periods of high activity and periods of low activity.

If you get rid of energy you need to get rid of the fixed 1.0s GCD as well and it won’t result in the fast-paced playstyle I think some of you are expecting. If you want to argue the merits of the energy-playstyle that’s fine but I think we should avoid arguing to take away energy classes just because someone as an individual doesn’t like the energy playstyle.

Hunter is also kinda this way with focus.

True, not every class is GCD locked, though Focus is a little different since Hunters are’t completely determinant on it. (There’s one or two spells with their own CD that don’t use focus) Plus they have more ways to generate focus while for Ferals it’s mostly just time. So it’s a little wonky. Though if you ask my personal opinion, I don’t think Focus differentiates itself from Energy enough similar to how I didn’t think Pain differentiated itself from Rage enough. A lot of resources seem to be different names for the same thing.
