Blood rotation question

Hi,

While tanking, I will find my self with no runes/runic power for maybe 1-2 seconds, so there is a little bit of downtime there. Am I just not prioritizing properly or is that normal?

thanks!

You’re probably spamming DS when it’s available and thus draining your runic pool. (Yes this does increase your damage output some, but it’s not entirely needed)

Wait for larger hits to use your DS, also make sure to add the skill that allows you to instantly refresh up to 2 runes on CD. Watch your runic - over ~70 or so, use a DS if you want. Under that, hold off for a second.

You don’t need to spam every ability the moment it comes up.

Mouse over each of your abilities and see what consumes runes and what consumes runic power

For example:
Marrowind- 2 runes
Heart strike- 1 runs

Death strike- RP (20 or 40?)
Death coil-RP

Make sure you don’t overuse marrowend especially not to if at 10 stacks of bone shield. Ideally you just want at least 5 stacks. Furthermore abilities like death coil are a complete waste imo and I take it off my spell belt

Remember too that rune regen is increased with haste

it is normal, but there are ways you can reduce downtime. 1. get more haste. 2. go venthyr. at my current haste 26% and being a venthyr, i never have any downtime. My rotation is smooth like butter

You are overusing death strike. Save it for big hits or if rp capped.

how do you know that?

If you are rune or rp starved (what op is referring to) then you are over death striking

no that is not always the case. I play both a venthyr dk and a necrolord dk with less haste. My necrolord def runs out of juice way faster than my venthyr dk. like twice as fast. We dont know specifically whether he deathstrikes correctly or incorrectly, but checking his build/profile the visible issue is covenant + lack of haste

Covenant has no bearing on the OP running out of runes and runic power.

do you play a blood dk? Yes it does. Look up what swarming mist does.
its not 100% the reason, but it helps minimize being resource hungry. on a minute cooldown and it shoots your RP to max, enough time to keep you alive till your runes come back up again.

I know what it does. I also know it’s absolutely a stupid argument to tell someone who’s playing wrong, i.e. running out of runes and runic power, that switching covenants is the answer. Would being venthyr help this? Sure, but it isn’t the actual root cause in the first place. Your “solution” is literally putting a band aid on a gaping wound.

How do you know he’s playing wrong? Theres literally no information on how he’s playing. He just say he’s having an issue with running out of rune/rp which is normal even when youre the perfect player. I’m offering solutions that minimizes the issue of being resource hungry while others are just saying he’s playing wrong when there are no indication that he is.

You are clearing 20’s, so we assuming you know what you are doing. He’s clearing 5’s and asking for help, so we assume he needs a little help.

The OP’s last sentence was “Am I just not prioritizing properly or is that normal?” So that means the OP has doubts as to how to hit the DS at the right time. This would lead us to believe he needs to work on rotation even though it is not explicitly stated.

You way is true, it would help for this expansion. But after that he would simply have to relearn when to hit DS anyway. Might as well start sooner rather than later.

well with his haste level and covenant, it is very normal to be resource hungry even when you’re playing perfectly. You’re going to have to kite using death and decay to wait for resources to come back up.

Even taking covenant out of the equation, He’s going to want more haste for a smoother rotation.
