Blood elf skin color is reflected by their affinity to Fire and the Sun

This is actually the only description of blood elf skin color I could find.

"“Their Hair and skin color reflect their affinity to fire and the sun.”

You’re searching really hard to find a reason to hate black blood elves.

To me that implies tans.

Some of them just have a higher affinity for the sun than others.

Yeah, I don’t see how that’s an argument against it. In a lot of settings beings that are associated with fire (eg. fire giants, DID) often end up dark skinned.

I mean, the elves made their home land have a single season year round. It’s always Sunny in Silvermoon.

Seeing as how the Sun is actually a giant mass of browns once you get past the initial corona, this image only legitimatizes darker skinned blood elves.

I mean, it’s supposed to be eternal springtime so it’s probably a bit chilly and split between sunny and down pouring.

I mean, it goes against everything we’ve known about them since the beginning so I think people are perfectly justified in wondering how blizzard is going to try to explain it.

Well it does look like they’ve been set on fire now…

Sorry I’ll let myself out.

Such skin variations doesn’t really make sense from a genetic standpoint, considering that the vast majority of Blood Elves and their ancestors lived life within the confines of the borders of Quel’thalas.

But Elves are the Eevee of Warcraft, and change form at the slightest different magical effect, so who knows?

I found a comment on a thread on MMO-Champion earlier that gave some pretty good reasons. (though I had to replace two words to post the comment here)

Nobody said a thing about very dark skinned Bronzebeards/Wildhammers. But somehow Blood Elves can’t get the same treatment??

I honestly don’t think “exposure to evil magic” is the best explanation for the dark skin :grimacing:
Especially since the other races getting new dark skin had no such exposure.

Does remind me of a certain…argument from the more vile days of human history. Involving a certain man named Cain and everything there of.

Yeah… pretty much that quote. Skin tones in WoW change on a whim because magic. It’s a complete non-issue.

The point is that magic tends to screw with the skin color of nearly every race.

“wizards did it”

OR

“they were here the whole time, retcons baby!”

Because it makes sense for dwarves, gnomes, and humans to have those skin tones. Blood elves have always turned red or purple when they get darker skin.
