So effectively Sanlayn ‘Blood is Life’ is facing a 30% nerf for us. This choice effectively was the whole ‘power draw’ and is why we seeing a big investment of Haste in order to accomplish and get the procs.
With the nerfs to our Hero Power and buffs to the alternative is anyone swapping back?
I play multiple tanks and I did enjoy Sanlayn but the ‘fat’ damage always came at a cost of survivability in high keys. I’m currently undecided, but this is a big blow IMO.
It’s not nearly as big a blow as you think.
While it means your big The Blood is Life pop off will be smaller, it’s still a ton of damage, and Death Strike will still hit like a train.

Honestly you’re right.
Was just gauging if the decision was significant enough to see if other Sanlayners were swapping.
In single target scenarios it is almost negligable, but if you like doing bigs pulls in m+, it’s quite a big nerf, especially if you used to squeeze out the most out of that Blood Beast procs
Just did Floodgate 11 today , “Blood is Life” did 17.1% of my overall dps, 30% nerf to Blood Beast equals around 5% nerf to my overall dps.
Yes, when lucky with procs my dps can be 10-25% higher than of other tanks, but I pay for this with lower survivability and lower utility and it took me hours and hours of practice to learn to squeeze a lot of damage out of procs.
90+% of blood Dks I met are not doing higher damage than other tank specs. We’re neither meta nor even close to meta in m+, we still have big survivability issues ever since the start of TWW and all we’re getting are damage nerfs.
And I will tell you this, this nerf comes only because Sanlayne is shared with Unholy. Blood Dk sanlayne has been this way since early season 1, but because Unholy wasn’t meta and was not even using Sanlayne talents in season 1, noone cared for Blood Beast procs, as we’re largely living in neglect since the start of this expansion.
The buffs to Deathbringer (which on their own are okay, if it they were not coupled with Sanlayne Nerfs)) also show blizzard’s ignorance of their own specs. Deathbringer and Sanlayne stat priority is vastly different.
Trying to shift favor torwards Deathbringer will make meta favoring players struggle to swap their gear, while Sanlayne loyal players like myself will simply be left frustrated at being mistreated.

This is where the cookie crumbles for me. I had accepted damage at the cost of survivability but they’re taking a part away from that damage.
What’s the value proposition for BDK over other tanks.
Personally, I really dislike the San’layn BDK playstyle and am happy to see anything that narrows the gap between the two hero specs.

They nerfing Blood is life talent not pact of the san layn. Your baseline blood beast’s attacks will storage less damage in explosion. But i still dont get it why nerf it. First its super rng. Second in s1 prot pally was doing insane damage and no other tank was near it and didint get nerfed. Third we are only one tank without raid buff not providing anything to party so at least we should be compensating in damge

i wonder if this was over the critter trick, in wpvp and some epics you could aoe some lvl 1 critters for billions of damage and then watch blood beast go off like a nuke on enemy players.

I think you’re right to a large degree. There were some things which were just absurd like inviting people to drop target dummies at the underpin, getting a stack to burst on him for all his health + then some.
I think a big part of it is what we could pull off in trivial content.
First room of Meadery is padd-central so a massive pull minus the mini boss, we’d be top DPS by far as a tank.
So I can see why they’d want to hit the uncapped damage in the butt, especially coming from a tank.
That’s some Rextroy crap right here.
I mean San’layn was part of the reason your survivability is so low. Deathbringer is just objectively more well rounded as far as defenses go, so we should be chilling with its buffs.

And many people do like playing San’layn, I personally can’t stand Deathbringer slowpaced playstyle with buttonbloat.
Deathbringer has always had better mitigation. If they wanna balance hero talents out, either lift up Deathbringer’s damage without touching Sanlayne or give Sanlayne mitigation buffs in compensation.
Pure nerf to Sanlayne and blood DK in general is pretty mindless, given how badly we’re represented in m+ and especially in very high keys.
Their text may suggest this, but I am pretty sure they will nerf Pact of Sanlayne next week, because this is like 90+% of Blood Beast damage when played properly.
- Deathbringer and Sanlayne have different stat priorities. You cannot just swap hero talents and play it. You need to change your gear otherwise it will feel mediocre at best.
2.Many people enjoy playing Sanlayne more than Deathbringer.

You’re allowed to enjoy whatever you want, but if your complaint is survivability you should play Deathbringer. That’s just how it is right now.
It’s not so much just survivability but that we had to sacrifice for damage, and now they’re reducing the damage without giving additional survivability.
But yes, especially now Deathbringer will likely be a good option to choose (and giving Sanlayn a go after patch honestly it’s not too bad, as predicted our DS from the blood queen buff still chunks).
