How do I block all whispers, so that if someone whispers me I don’t get the message at all and it tells them I have whispers blocked? Not /dnd but a way to fully block, and the person knows I didn’t receive the whisper at all.
Create a new chat window tab, enable whispers in that tab and disable them everywhere else, then just never look at that tab.
I think there’s an addon for this but I don’t know what it is. I can certainly see the appeal, I get a lot of repeated recruitment spam for guilds on my unguilded characters and it’s actually quite annoying. Especially after I’ve told them “no thanks” a few times.
With that said, let me offer you some perspective from the other side… I was questing with a friend and another person rolled up. I tried to whisper them to see if they needed it too only to get an auto reply back saying “Characters below level 40 don’t have the right to whisper me.” By the time we got it sorted out in /say we had already tagged and killed the mob, so they missed out and had to wait for a long spawn timer.
When you block communication channels you can also miss positive things. You decide for you, I just wanted to relate that in case it made any difference ![]()
That doesn’t let the person whispering me know that I have whispers blocked.
It wouldn’t be a permanent thing. Sometimes you put someone on ignore, and they log over to another account to get in the last word.
I’m not sure how the addon works but presumably you could turn it on/off at will.
I don’t think there’s any way to make it selective based on a person, but I feel you. There’s folks around here who regularly make new forum characters to bypass the ignore list. It’s annoying and there’s no way to report it.
Honestly, you should only be able to have a single online identity that spans multiple characters and accounts. You can still have an anonymous character, but if I ignore your character (or forum avatar), there should be mechanisms in place to help ensure that sticks.
Anyway, good luck to you!
You want to ignore all whispers in classic wow?
I would think that would severely hinder gameplay, and the ability to make groups?
You could combine /dnd with the chat tab thing.
Or maybe you don’t need a chat tab at all. Just disable whispers in the main tab.
Doesn’t work, if the person put me on ignore. I tested it. It’s basically to make it so if someone’s being annoying I can turn off all whispers, then if they decide to use another account they can’t put me on ignore then whisper me. The ignore will block my /dnd message. While being notified that I’m not accepting whispers.
Why does this matter? Can’t you just ignore the whispers when you get them? They’ll be told you’re ignoring them. If they continue from another alt, rinse and repeat.
I have to wonder how you ticked someone off enough to go through a bunch of alts to pester you.
It’s more to make a point. I tend to add their character to friends list and play another character till they log for about a week, and they forget.
Well, obviously if they have you on ignore, they’re not going to see any automated responses from you.
At this point I don’t even know what you’re asking for.
He wants to get the last word in.
I dunno, it depends. I’ve seen what the OP is talking about, I’ve had it done to me. People get mad, they say a bunch of stuff, you put them on ignore. Even if they had the last word sometimes they just like to switch over to a new character to continue to berate you. When this happens I just don’t engage but sometimes people just take it too far.
This has happened maybe three times in the 20 years I’ve been playing the game but when it does it’s annoying to have to sit through a childish tantrum that spams multiple characters because folks can’t let things go. Honestly you don’t even need the week they mentioned, I think you just need 5 minutes.
I can see the OP’s desire though I will mention, just in case, getting the last word in isn’t really necessary. Once you’ve decided to ignore communication is over anyway.
I googled, there’s an addon called BadBoy_Levels that looks like what you want. For future reference, I found this by googling:
wow addon block whispers

This is what I’m talking about.
