This hunter has existed since the game has. You’re not one of them.
Okay, first let me say I am against Blizz’s plans for MM. I have always played this character exclusively as MM (though I trained for BM back when learning a second spec was a big deal). I don’t want to switch to a different spec if I want to pull my pets out.
HOWEVER, every delve I’ve done was without a pet, and I did fine. Granted, I haven’t tried the hardest level yet, but it’s still a stretch to claim one can’t do delves as MM without a pet.
The real problem is pretty much what the OP says:
I don’t think we need a dark ranger class per se, but giving Hunters a FOURTH spec that is ranged without a pet will solve the issue for both camps. I can stay a ranged DPS who uses weapons and a pet. Players who don’t want a pet can have a whole new spec to play. It’s not like there are no other classes in WoW with four specs.
My hunter was made in vanilla and I have always played with a pet regardless of spec. So, people that play hunter as MM don’t want pets is a fallacy. I have other friends that play MM and play with pets. Strike two. Lots of people here stating that they want to play MM with pets. Strike 3.
Stick to warlock so that we can tell you when Blizzard comes for your void that it’s a good thing and no warlock ever plays their void.
I just like that Hunter in general has felt kinda good to play ‘generally’ as all 3 specs.
Whilst I play BM in keys, I’m very glad that it provides a relatively fun experience when I do some MM’ing in world content or Survival in delves (insane burst!).
I don’t think the core class will actually change very much with these changes.
2-3 months into the changes, especially (well hopefully) if they have visual glyphs to keep some personal lore.
I would say this is the cart leading the horse.
MM is a “petless” specialization because it’s supposed to be about the marksmanship of the Hunter themselves. I don’t think MM has to be intrinsically petless, just that if it had a pet it needs to support the gameplay of the hunter rather than vice versa.
Personally I’m pretty optimistic about the current rework, it kinda reminds me how Diabolist Demo/Destro work in that your rituals don’t just summon a big dude (which is very cool, don’t get me wrong), but they also empower the Warlock themselves to do something big, like making your generator generate significantly more resources, or your spender do massively increased damage (and be AoE for the case of Chaos Bolt).
I think Lone Wolf was more a desire to remove the micromanagement of pets from MM which intrudes on the sharpshooter fantasy, Legolas never needed a help to hold an Orc down just so he could land his shots after all. But a spotter to mark targets and increase your damage against them? That fits perfectly in with plenty of sharpshooter aspects.
If Blizzard reworked pets for Aff/Destro so they’re more interesting, I would gladly sacrifice my Voidwalker for that.
Speaking of which, buff GoSac so I can sacrifice my voidwalker Blizzard.
- I find this logic bizarre. MOST ranged specs in this game don’t have a pet. Are you saying they can’t do delves?
- None of your arguments pointing to current pet-optional MM are relevant. They’re not just deleting the beast, refunding you one talent point and calling it a day; they’re rebalancing the entire spec around it not being an option at all. So even if you were right that Lone Wolf delves are somehow impossible, the current spec is not how this new MM will function.

Even under the M+ setting, at least 1 hunter ain’t runnin’ lone wolf… and that’s just out of the TOP 50.
Tbh I’ve never used this site before, but to me it looks like out of 50, none of them are going without in m+.
I’m not saying it’s NOT happening, but I doubt anyone in at least the top 500 are running without lonewolf.
They are pushing the .1% in those ranges. Every bit of damage counts.
Nothing new with Murlok, it pulls data from whatever build they logged out in.
I agree with OP, Blizzard should create a Dark Ranger for real hunters and let Huntards have their MM Hunter.
We are talking about PvE.
On top of that, murlock just uses the last build they logged out in.
It’s the “I” mentality of many, I’m okay with it or I like this, so it doesn’t matter how it affects others.
It’s only when it impacts them doesn’t it matter, and requires attention.
The claim was that people don’t use it - but quite a few do. Clearly they use it if they logged out in it.
I’m sorry for that yesterday. Not doing the best and I can see I didn’t use my best judgement. Really, I shouldn’t have suggested you were rude.
How about taking on a named rare as MM with no pet? I just did the rounds, and took out several with 25M plus HP using my pet (with upgraded mend pet), and they were solo-able. I tried the next one as lone wolf, and figured I could survive for the 20 seconds it would take to kill it (only 210 ilvl), but was running very low on HP toward the end, so I did a feign death, and of course the mob instantly went to 100% HP.
I realize that I could have figured out a better approach for this situation to solo it, but decided to just call my pet, and get my weekly rep from the boss. If they do away with pets for MM, I’ll just swap to BM when pets make sense for me. If they do away with pets for BM, then I’ll go back to GW2 again.
You conveniently ignored my post after using the very source you linked.
By your own source, people are ONLY using LW.
I wouldn’t let it bother you. Murlok shows 100% LW usage for m+ lol.
So whether they logged out in proper talents or not, their own source disproved their point.
They will not improve mm’s kiting ability
they will not add anything new
what is on the beta is all they’ll do
as always with hunter. MM’s playerbase will dwindle bm’s will increase again like when survival died, and then bm will be made a healer spec in 6 years or so
I guess I’m the weirdo that likes running without a pet. I’d love a dedicated gunslinger class, but until Blizzard decides to add one, I - and people like me - are stuck here.
blizzard: even though we know you dont use pets in raid and m+, we are reimagining mm hunter and removing pets completely, even as an option.
also blizzard: we are giving you a mandatory pet, that you cannot change. it will be a passive eagle. that you have no control over. it is 100% passive and outside of the game world. you cannot md onto it and you cannot control if and when it arrives, or what it does.
players: so you are removing pets because you want to reimagine the spec as a petless spec by adding a mandatory pet?
blizzard: yes
blizzard employee under the desk: oh and tell them we are taking barrage away from them and giving it to bm only. snickers in low iq
So i can say that if people are upset about MM needing a pet to lust in M+ they can just switch to mage for M_ content? nice!
