SHADOWLANDS: EXPANSION FEATURES

A host of new features and activities await players in World of Warcraft: Shadowlands. When they cross into the realm-between-realms, players will be able to:

  • Explore the Realm of the Dead: For the first time ever in World of Warcraft, players will cross into the Shadowlands and experience the wonders and horrors of the afterlife across five new zones—the gleaming fields of Bastion, the scarred battlefields of Maldraxxus, the eternal twilight of Ardenweald, the opulent keeps of Revendreth, and the horrific Maw.
  • Claim a Covenant’s Power: Players will be called upon to forge a bond with one of four Covenants that rule Shadowlands’ new zones, setting the tone for their journey through the expansion with a full Covenant Campaign. As they level up, they’ll get new abilities based on their choice, including class-specific abilities for each Covenant—as well as developing Soulbinds with specific Covenant members, which grant them access to that character’s specific traits and bonuses.
  • Ascend Tower of the Damned : At the heart of the Maw lies Torghast, Tower of the Damned, a cursed otherworldly prison where the wickedest souls in the universe are locked away. Highly replayable and inspired by roguelike games, heroes are invited to explore its ever-changing halls and chambers and do battle with the minions of the Jailer, Torghast’s vile ruler. Those who brave its trials can claim legendary treasures and help free the heroic spirits wrongfully trapped within.
  • Every Level is Meaningful : Shadowlands will introduce a new leveling system, meant to provide a meaningful sense of advancement with every level achieved. Current max-level characters will begin Shadowlands at level 50 and work toward the new level cap of 60.
  • A New Army of the Dead Rises: To combat Sylvanas’ assault on Icecrown, Bolvar Fordragon—the revered former paladin who took on the mantle of Lich King to keep the Scourge at bay—has raised heroes from among all the peoples of Azeroth to bolster the Death Knights of Acherus. With Shadowlands, pandaren and all allied races will now be able to become Death Knights.
  • Improved Character Customization Options: A host of new appearance options for all races will be made available to players when they create new World of Warcraft characters (or alter existing ones at the in-game barber shop).

Hmm… let me see:

  • Sylvanas gets redeemed and she will be in the cinematic with her great plan to save the universe
  • Tyrande/Night Elves do nothing or Tyrande gets killed off
  • Bolvar will play a big role
  • New Class / A new set of allied races
  • We’re going to the shadowlands
    and…
  • Faction merge maybe? This could be a tough one

I am pretty excited to get out of this expansion.

I’m here at work waiting for it to start giving Blizzard the very last chance to keep me in the game. If it fails to deliver a compelling story for Night Elves I’m gonna be once again stepping away from the game.

That being said my unwanted but most probable predictons are:
Sylvanas declared the ultimate savior of the world
Tyrande getting villain batted/killed/lectured down by Anduin
Shandris becoming our racial leader
Shadowlands
Elune revealed in a no so flattering way, she will become neutral
Undead Night elves for the horde and lightforged undead for the alliance
Faction being shuffled (4 factions or crossfaction content?)

Oh boy, i can’t wait to watch this train wreck.

So what new controversy is going to happen this year?

I want to make some wild last minute predictions…

Next AR will be a Shapeshifter that can take on the appearance of any playable race on the specific faction. Access to all classes. Neutral so they can join either faction.

There will be a side zone in one of the expansion’s patches where we travel to Elune’s celestial domain and meet various awesome nelves from the history of the race that have been lost to time and war. Tyrande/Malfurion will get some moments that will redeem them in the eyes of the players (though the Devs will not say this, because that’s guaranteed to have the opposite effect). This celestial palace zone becomes the new capital for Night Elves, and fresh level 1 nelves start there.

A similar zone will exist for Forsaken and act as their new racial capital in the same way. The ghost of Terenas Menethil will dissolve the monarchy of Lordaeron and the Forsaken peoples will create a democracy. Sylvanas will be celebrated for the Hero she was, not the villain she became, and be something of a cautionary tale, rather like Grom Hellscream always should have been for Orcs.

Depends on which game causes it.

If it’s wow it’ll be something to do with the “wrong” class or race being added. Maybe the Big New Feature being the worst thing ever.

 10/10

Funny enough, I was basing that around the old bit of rumor that originally, Blizzard wanted to include a shape-shifting race into the Alliance back in Vanilla.

My prediction? Disappointment.

Blizz will act all excited about the new expansion, the crowd will eat it up, and we’ll sit here and shake our heads knowing what they say can’t be trusted.

Blizz is going to have to work hard to regain my trust.

If there’s no main narrative faction war nonsense, I’ll be perfectly happy with whatever they give us.

I’m sure there will be something that will get me excited, but I’ve grown cynical through the years (not all because of WoW). I just want a good story, one that both sides can enjoy.

Just waiting for the cinematic. Even if the story isn’t very good, blizz does wonders with their cinematics. Also waiting for the inevitable hit or miss that will be the Diablo panel.

Here’s my prediction:

  • The next expansion will be terribly written.
  • It will have new systems which are universally reviled.

I used to be excited for BlizzCon, now I am apprehensive.

Oh well, lets watch the debris fly.

Last minute prediction

No shadow lands, instead we time travel to Warcraft 3.

Because nostalgia is all blizzard has going for them right now.

There will be at least one genuinely exciting thing. One thing that grabs my attention and gives me genuine, undiluted hope for the future of the game.

I’m a damn fool.

Huh, I’m kind of amazed they actually brought up the Hong Kong thing on their own. Good on them for that at least.

The fanboy/optimist wants to respect them for that, at least.

The cynic/realist in me knows that words are cheap and they could have said just about anything. Let’s see how they conduct themselves.
