Blizzcon 2019 Approaching - My Wishlist

With new Blizzcon announcements coming, I thought I’d put together a new list of things that I would love to see, even if some of them are way out there.

Transmogrification:
• It doesn’t appear that the Transmog system has had any updates since it was implemented, other than new items added. I have wardrobe addons, but they don’t really address the core limitations.
• Updates for out-of-date sources, such as Armor Tokens – The system tells you who the Vendor is, but doesn’t tell you where they are, nor where to get the token that they require.
• Armor Set Planner – Create and save armor sets within the Appearances UI, to include pieces that have yet to be unlocked, and allow them to be saved across account.
• Remove level requirements, or loosen them again, so that all unlocked items are available.
• Tied to above, remove the multi-item same-skin unlocks – Once any version of the item is unlocked, all other sources are considered collected. Somewhat required with the current system, but without level restrictions, this is no longer needed.
• Additional Armor Set Tab – Include official armor sets, questing, dungeon, lookalikes, possibly a separate tab next to the Raid/PVP tab, or sub-tabs/filters within the current tab, to find set pieces more easily.
• Complete some of the incomplete sets – some of these sets have been missing pants since the system was implemented, and probably longer.

Armor Tokens:
• Simplify older armor tokens to work like newer tokens, without class requirements… or tweak the drops so that unusable tokens are replaced with a useable token or other item
• A token exchange program would be great, three tokens you can’t use, and the vendor will trade you for one that you can use
• Making them BoA would help immensely, since I often get everything but the class I am on.

Guild:
• Crafting material access from Guild Vault, per rank – similar to Guild Repairs
• Additional guild perks. Maybe the crafting option above could be a perk. I miss some of the old guild perks, like mass rez.

Battle Pets:
• Why do so many disparate vendors accept Polished Pet Charms, when that vendor would have no lore reasons for accepting this currency? They should accept currencies aligning with their current role or items, such as War Resources, gold, manapearls, etc. The precedent that was set for Shiny Pet Charms was that they were accepted by a few vendors, but not by everyone with a battle pet in inventory. Also, where is my Zookeeper shoulder enchant, allowing me to supplement my collecting of these charms. The way it is set up now is painful, and doesn’t have to be.
• Change the green pet rarity stones so that they add one level of rarity, rather than increase the pet’s rarity to green. I mean, who wants to upgrade to green when the desired rarity is blue? Plus, if Epic pets were ever introduced, the functionality would already exist to upgrade one level from blue to purple.
• …or just treat max-level pets the same way as followers, and allow them to upgrade their rarity on their own via XP.

Currency:
• Could some of the currencies be shared account-wide? This would help immensely when running alts through older content, and not have to re-collect, or maintain separate amounts per character. Or, like War Resources, there could be a way to convert them into a mailable item to send to other characters. For example, a few suggestions:
○ Timeless Coins
○ Timewarped Badges
○ Garrison Resources
○ Oil
○ Apexis Crystals
○ Shiny Pet Charms
○ Order Resources
○ Ancient Mana
○ Nethershards
○ Veiled Argunite
○ Wakening Essences
○ War Resources
○ Polished Pet Charms
○ Prismatic Manapearls
○ Darkmoon Prize Tickets

Max-Level Expansion Features:
• Need some way to improve these features, so that it doesn’t feel like a punishment for alts to quest in these areas. Once the content is no longer current, maybe level-sync them to 5 levels lower, or remove the level requirements entirely.
○ Timeless Isle – Single-level zone at 90, with many elites and challenges, allowing the character to gear up prior to heading to the next expansion, but is quickly outleveled
○ Garrison Level 3 / Docks – Requires level 100, but is out-leveled shortly after invading Tanaan, or skipped entirely at 98.
○ Tanaan Jungle – Single-level zone at 100 with plenty to do, but immediately out-leveled
○ Class Hall Campaign/Mount - A good portion of the campaign is locked until 100, including the questline for class mounts. As soon as you level to 111, you can no longer queue for the dungeons required by these questlines.
○ Suramar and Broken Shore – Single-level zones at 110, containing the Nightfallen and Legionfall factions for class armor, along with plenty of questlines leading up to the major raids for Legion
○ Argus – Single-level zone at 110, locked by a questline, which will likely be out-leveled before it is unlocked
○ World Quests – Only available at the zone’s level cap or higher (aside from invasions), encouraging the player to move on to the next expansion, unless reputation is needed
○ Nazjatar/Mechagon - Single-level zones at 120
• Raids and Heroic Dungeons:
○ Older raids should be allowed in LFR for appropriately-leveled characters, such as MC/BWL/AQ at 60, Mag/SSC/TK/BT at 70, etc.
○ Possibly allow queueing for raids and heroics a couple levels sooner, based on gear score, and tied to level sync
○ All dungeons and raids should then include a quick way back to the entrance, so that you don’t get stuck when in a pre-made, or when soloing. Hearth is not always the best/preferred option. Primary example is Sunwell Plateau. Once you fight Brutallus/Felmyst, you can’t get back to the entrance to zone out to Quel’danas. So, unless your Hearth is set to Quel’danas, you’ll have to travel back there to visit the vendors to turn in any tokens you just got in the raid (mainly for the PVP equivalent of the raid set).

Garrison:
• Remove character level restrictions for building upgrades, and allow them as money/resources allow
• Remove Follower limits, allowing more to get done in the short time players will spend in Draenor

Reputation:
• Reputations are not shared across characters, but would be great if the stand-alone ones (not directly opposed to another faction) could be shared. At the very least, if one character reaches Exalted with a faction, the other characters on that battle.net should not have to do so again in order to obtain reputation rewards for that class/character.
• Additional faction tokens for older factions, delivered World Quest style, unlocked when the zone’s Loremaster prerequisite is completed.

Companion App:
• There is still a need for the Legion App, and would be a great need for a Garrison App. People still have characters in these zones.

Zones:
• Can we finally remove the instancing for the Blood Elf and Draenei starting zones (and maybe Quel’danas), allowing flying and normal access without loading screens?
• Gilneas – Now that Teldrassil is burned and Lordaeron is toxic, Could the Alliance retake Gilneas?
• Some of the original zone stories/quest flow ended up a bit disjointed when level sync started, as quests are no longer unlocked at varying levels. These should be reviewed, so that the relevant quests follow specific prerequisite quests before they can be started. This is most noticeable in secondary starting zones like Bloodmyst, Elwynn, Ghostlands, but can be felt in higher level vanilla zones like Burning Steppes, Searing Gorge, and Winterspring as well.

Hunter Pets:
• An additional version of, or a Racial Effect glyph for, Tame Pet, allowing some of the below:
○ Void form for Void Elf pets
○ Lightforged form for Lightforged pets
○ Molten form for Dark Iron pets
○ Diseased effect for Undead pets
○ Moontouched effect for Night Elf pets
○ Fel effect for Blood Elf pets
○ etc

The two things I’d like to see are:

  1. Class design revisions and a reversion back towards class (not spec) identity. I’m hoping they will take steps to reverse the abilities pruned over the past 3-4 expansions.

  2. Progression system tied to the character / account and not the expansion. It’s sad when artifact weapons, azerite traits or other key systems only last for one expansion. I’m hoping they revamp character progression systems as well as leveling to be more rewarding and compelling. One example could be how Borderlands 2 has bada** redemptions that marginally increase things like crit chance or crit hit damage over time.

At the end of the day, I will be playing both Retail and Classic. I’m hoping some of the design philosophies going forward reflect some of the core positives of WoW historically, without unnecessarily encumbering down Retail into a clunky grind.

After bfa will ion still be the director person in charge of world of Warcraft?

or do we want this ship to continue to slowly sink to the depths of hell?

Maybe they’ll have a new phone waiting for you under your seat.

Well, you could always submit your resume for the gig.

I’d like:

  • Expand the glyphes! Everyone loves options, so give us more! Where is our shadow ravens? Our shivalah claws?

  • Seriously about that druid form/xmog stuff. I’m not going to stop complaining. Give us a glyph or something so we can untie the artifact weapons from their skins or give us NEW SKINS. I’ve been using the same THREE fist weapons since day one this xpac because I don’t want to go back to boring pleb bear

  • Give us an option for our mounts to sort by flying and non-flying

  • Update/give us more Crocolisk pets! I loved their idle hissing but all the models are now old and bleh

  • Reduce the cost for leveling up profs and/or make it so you can level a prof without the need for rep-purchased recipes

  • Next xpac, design the new world with flying in mind. The jetpacks from mecha were a good start. Add antiflying guards and mobs if you must, but let us attempt air travel at a more reasonable time. Flying =/= less gametime

  • Black Empire needs to destroy our classic zones. I am tired of all the same ol’ quests

No, not phones…

High Elves.

De-pruning of classes, at least taking them back to MoP levels of complexity. Perhaps, if we’re unrealistically lucky, we’ll get talent trees again in some form.

I’ll also take the next xpac announcement, or Shaman tanking.

My biggest things by far:

World/Leveling Revamp

  • Revamps leveling experience to be smooth, continuous, and relatively free of time paradoxes
  • Leveling quests are crafted to be timeless and explicitly not tied to any particular expansion
  • EK and and Kalimdor updated to reflect repairs that’ve occurred since Cataclysm
  • Quel’Thelas and Draenei islands moved off the Outland map and onto EK and Kalimdor’s maps, eliminating instance portals
  • New leveling story for Outland centered around the fallout of the collapse of the Burning Legion and holding what remains of Outland together
  • Cataclysm zones retooled to no longer be about the Cataclysm, but instead just another EK/Kali zone (e.g. you might level in Hyjal right after finishing Winterspring)

Refocus on Class Design

  • Bring class design back to the forefront as a major focus of the dev team
  • Make players feel good for choosing the classes they chose
  • Prioritize class uniqueness and fun over perfect balance
  • Greatly reduce the number of spec-locked abilities
  • Bring back “niche” abilities

Yes, YES, YES ERRRR MUH GERD YES

Balancing the game has made it boring to play. This should be a RPG where if you’re really good you can do some serious damage. Dumbing it down has only made things dull and boring to play. Doing pvp with healers having nearly infinite mana makes for a lame experience and only dampening causes the matches to end. THAT’S BAD GAME DESIGN. Healers should go OOM really fast and their heals shouldn’t be as strong as they are now.

The only thing I particularly want at the moment would be Ogres/Saurok/Vulpera/San’layn as playable allied or core Horde races. As I keep saying, it’d make my day to see them announced.

For this one they’d have to move those zones off the Hellfire (Outland) map.

This is kind of a nasty thing to say.

I don’t see any problems with a person’s wishlist. Where is the problem, exactly?
