Blizzard's stance on Chrome Remote Desktop

Well I was told it was against TOS to use it to log in queue from work.

Then I watched Bellular Gaming’s latest video where he said he did it to skip queues.

Considering this guy has been brown nosing Retail forever does it make it ok to use it now or is he getting banned?

I doubt you got told that, If you can find it in the TOS, I’ll believe you. Its not a cheat at all, its being prepared. You aren’t adding to the queue by staying constantly logged in.

Edit: If you get home before your queue is up then thats what its for. However if you use it to like jump around in game to stay logged in while at work, then yeah. But solely to use it for queues and get home before its up? No cheating there.

I mean, technically he snitched on himself. He legit said he does it on a video that almost a quarter million people saw (plus probably some Blizzard employees.)

hence the stitches

I can stay online forever on char selection using that while I’m at work skipping prime time queues. I mean I don’t care really I dont like being in queues i’m all for it.

This made me chuckle, regardless of your intent. Well played.

Phone app + queue alarm… and make bank already geeze.

maybe I’m just out of the loop, why would it be against TOS?

you’re not automating anything or having anyone else “play” on your account to get you through the queue.

Apparently it has to do with using a remote program to log yourself.

Like not being in front of your computer.

I’m not saying it is against TOS I’m asking if it is.

Well its something they’d have a hard time proving, in any case.

And i dont think it’s reasonable, either. Its me, operating my computer. How i choose to do it is quite literally none of Blizzard’s business.

Apparently there were bans before for using cloud streaming services to run WoW on a cloud server and then stream it to your PC. So if that is a TOS violation, I’m curious how this would be any different. You are essentially running the game client on a different machine and streaming it to another. Even if you aren’t playing, your still logging in and doing game related things like getting in queue. Just a thought. I don’t know anything for sure, but it’s similar to what has been banned in the last.

I’ve been using teamviewer to queue up while at work, no issues so far.

I can also do that via Steam. Even remotely (that was added somewhat recently).

Its not their business. The reason the Cloud thing was an issue is because you (the player) dont own the hardware that is actually running the game, and it is therefore insecure (the service you’re using to run the game in the cloud could be a lot more vulnerable to being hacked/intercepted and/or just stealing your account info itself).

With CRD or another RDP/Client, im running the game on my own hardware, on both ends. Its secure and encrypted. Same as if i do it through Steam’s remote streaming service now, or a Steamlink in my living room.

Edit:

They also detected the Cloud services because the data packets were all coming from the CLoud service center. My data will be coming from my computer, at home.

I use a RDC to play games when i travel for work. I dont care enough to buy a gaming laptop (i dont travel THAT much), and it work just fine for the kind of games i do play when traveling (RPGs, turn based strat, etc). I also used to do my daily/world quests in WoW via this method.

Again, since its all my hardware and encrypted end-to-end, theyd have no way to detect it and the ToS would have to be twisted and lawyered to a level that even most good lawyers aren’t capable of to make it work.

I’ve read the whole ToS and it’s not penalized to use chrome’s remote app, but it’s also not supported, that is, if your keys get logged, account hacked, etc, Blizzard would not help you get your stuff back.

You are not adding to the queue, but you are wasted server space preventing someone ready to play from logging in. This is far worse.

Chrome, as in Google chrome, has a remote access tool built in?

Technically it is but it’s up to Blizzard to enforce it.

Generally software agreements like ToU/ToS and EULA are all treated as civil matters in court , not criminal ones.

This means that AFAIK breaking the terms of them isn’t illegal (as in against the law) it’s just against the terms you legally signed with the company you signed them with. The most they can do is ask you to not use their software anymore - they can’t bring you up on criminal charges.

Now Blizzard might be able to ban Bellular and force him not to use their software. But considering the PR they get from him being a youtuber realistically wise they’re not going to do that.

I’m kind of wondering how they’d even ban remote desktop software. More or less, it’s like sitting in front of your computer. Except you aren’t. The actions are still physically initiated by a human.

If human-caused actions like this are against TOS, I’d be really surprised. This is like claiming unfairness about someone who is queuing on their laptop at work when all you have is a desktop at home.
