I’m not for, or against player housing, I used to say who cares, but have since realized that if it’s important to some players then why not?
They did garrisons, so we know something like that is possible.
The amount of money they have made from this game vs the money they put into it just doesn’t seem to do the game justice.
I mean, look at the amazing armor other games have, and the armor from legion, vs BFA and shadowlands. Some SL armor is amazing, but the rest seems like pure laziness. Not to mention that terrible model for the new class and race coming up. Geeze.
I just feel like they could be investing more resources Into the game seeing as how wow is a cash cow
I really thought we were going to get it.
At least like a guild hall or something. It gets old hanging out in goldshire or running laps in oribos.
It would be cool to have a hub where your guild, goes or something like that.
As long as its not tied to player power or anything like that
At least Ion gave a straight answer about it for once.
And I do agree with many of the sentiments, housing would not have fit the ‘theme’ of Dragonflight. I will hold on for hope (I nearly lost it to the anti-housing people.)
I’ll admit, I was anti housing. But after actually thinking about it, and remembering how fun the garrison was on my old account, yea. Housing would be ok
The problem most people never grasped about the garrison is that it was too much utility and not enough customization.
Also they never think how one would get extra furniture, apparently the way to do that is too…
reads notes
…Sit alone in the house and AFK as opposed to shrieking political hot-points to one another in SW while others AFK?
I think it didn’t have much customization because they wanted it to fit the theme for the expac
Is there really a theme? I mean the only thing the video showed were dragons flying around an island and that there were creatures that we could find all over the world living there. Whose to say those creatures didn’t progress and build a huge city full of condos in the 10,000 years that they lived there?
I agree.
The new expac doesn’t really seem to have a theme. Just weird stone guys. And random dragons flying
I’d wager Blizzard would consider there to be a vague theme of “exploration” in how they designed the new content, which definitely does not fit with the concept of “housing”.
Granted, it really doesn’t need to. Housing wouldn’t be on the Dragon Isles or whatever, it’d be Stormwind, Orgrimmar, Silvermoon, Whatever. Or even just some standalone instanced plane. Whatever works.
Blizzard tends to get really hung up on making sure everything ties directly into current endgame gameplay, and it’s why I question if they’d pull off housing in a way that feels good.
Would gladly give up a Raid tier for a system like housing that will stay with us forever…
Oh I don’t know about that. Have you ever gone house hunting? You explore the area before you choose what houses to look at. I’d say the vague theme of exploring and houses go hand in hand.
I don’t believe dragonflight theme is why they prevented player housing. I believe in the conspiracy theory that yes it would take a whole new team or a raid tier to start this to be a thing. But with the backlash and bad success they had with BFA and Shadowlands that Dragonflight is a make it or break it scenario to Blizzard (not the community). If they cant recover a good chunk of those who left in the mass exodus the game may go into maintaince mode.
At the heart of your argument is whether they should do something with the resources they have. And you are right to make that point, but what should they do?
They can give us our own personal room in a capital city for us to display our trophies.
They can also give us something to do outside of raids/PvP. Even weekly stuff like ZM will get boring in a few weeks. Islands-like for mounts and pets and other cosmetics. Boss rush mode solo instanced content, like 9.2 Torghast or mini-Mage Towers.
Either way I really hope they give us stuff to do. I don’t want to have active game time, find there’s nothing else interesting to do, and then log out.
Why does it have to fit a theme at all ? There are tons and tons of past areas in this game that we can put housing or what ever .
FFS the Devs have to get it out of their heads the concept that every thing has to be in the latest zone/patch. They just keep making more empty zones once a new patch comes out . Put stuff in the old world let us have some fun
Not to mention the furnishings - furniture styles, trophies, decorations all come from various cultures and areas. And housing can be anywhere (see ESO as an example - houses in all different zones and styles). It’s just a customizable instanced space that you can hearth to (just like the garrison, just mostly smaller, and allowing for the placement of items). The boon to crafting and the way collectors end up all over the world (old and new zones) looking for recipes or items would give WoW life again.
It is possible. They know it. We know it. lol.
I just use my garrison for all my main characters. I figure even if/when they do player housing theyre not going to do a good job like ESO does. Ion has a stunning ability to take something simple that could be 100% positive and mangle it till its so twisted that its just not even worth bothering with.
With the rich history of this game, and how much time people invested into it. Housing and giving players the freedom to personalize a place is a no brainer.
I think my husband is right about this issue. He has no care for housing, but even he says from a business stand point, and from what consumers want for years. The fact that even after the failure of Shadowlands, and they still not giving content that would last way into future, and give a huge boost to crafting as well. The fact they other mmorpgs can do it, and some how Blizzard can’t, speaks volumes of the leadership.
Here is the simple truth. Not having player housing in this game after this long looks bad on Blizzard.
you’re saying you dont want your house next to the herbalist trainer and the alchemy lab?
I’d not seeing this burn a raid tier.
Unless something I am not seeing here…the raids graphically are done loooooong before boss tuning. Its the boss AI that kills time.
Put up “4 walls” , apply textures, move on. the months of design is making that new boss AI work. and be unique.
Based on mod attempts in this realm…the “4 walls” is the “easier” bit. its the ai tweaks that suck the most I find .
this is why in modded skyrim npc’s do odd things. that AI is not prepared to deal with that wall you put up lol.
Since most raids are wide open room and beat downs…less issue here. Unless like that boss in CN the mechanic was in fact to have them slam into columns…the room is done really. As I’d guess that giant needed graphics team to come in once or twice for collision mesh issues as bugs came up.
Housing if jsut us in it…well then ai not an issue. If you are walking into a wall eternally well then…stop doing that lol.
