Blizzards not forcing you to pick a certain covenant to play in Shadowlands. They are simply presenting the options and choices you can make.
The community is forcing you into the mindset of having to pick a specific covenant. Picking a covenant is a meaningful and impactful choice, which I used to see a LOT of people wanting back when people talked about the war campaign, and now we have that meaningful and impactful choice…and now you suddenly dont want it because you’re scared some random peraon on the internet won’t let you into their group?
I gave Blizz a LOT of crap over a lot of things that happened in BfA (not all on this character.) but this is something I hope remains unchanged. I want my choice to have meaning and I want my choice to have consequences. You’re picking something for your characters story. The gameplay abilities is just a bonus. They could have gicen us nothing, not even cosmetics.
No ones forcing you to pick the most optimal and I am honestly willing to bet, like races and their racials, will only seriously impact the world first raiders; not some guy who likes to push heroic raids with his friends or does BGs for fun.

Your experience is LFR and +5 dungeons. You are casual to the point where your opinion does not matter when it comes to optimization of one’s character. I understand why you may not feel forced but those of us that like the higher end of content will be.

That 2% matters after several hours of wiping at 5%.
Not to mention, Imagine an entire raid group of “it’s only 2%” people. That’s a lot of missed damage that adds up.

Even if those consequences are your covenant’s abilities getting nerfed into the ground after the first month?
You might as well expand this to the entire game and just tell people to never complain about anything ever again.

This characters also an alt I am working on gearing. My opinions just as valid as yours.

It’s just Alpha. The moaning about it being felt forced means it’ll likely never make it to the Beta let alone Live.
Can’t wait to see dozens of these threads from now until this system goes live in a glorious fiery train wreck, then we’ll get to see them morph into threads attacking all of the people who are quitting because they aren’t having fun.

And why should the 1% that decide to do high end content dictate what stays in the game or not? Y’all did the same thing with Titanforging. And now we have corruption.

I don’t mind the idea of Covenants being …well, a choice that actually matters.
As for the “2% dps bonus” thing-a-ma-bob, i’m not a raider nor a high key mythic pluser, so whether or not i miss a 2% dps from choosing the wrong covenant is irrelevant to me. It’s World content, Normal to sub mythic 10+ dungeon, and whatever odd solo/group content the expansion has.
Why not just follow the mechanics and perfect your rotation? Not everything needs to be about just increasing DPS and just blow though it.

That’s what people said about HOA stuff.

Because, simply put, class altering abilities do not matter to LFR heroes. They matter when you’re in a +20 or mythic boss.
And you cannot blame anyone for corruption but blizzard. The community wanted less rng when it came to gearing. Not more.

Big difference, HOA traits weren’t added until late Beta. This is still early Alpha.

Absolutely gross.

Imagine folks 15 years ago complaining that Blizzard was forcing them to choose which talent tree to put their points into

Then you will pick according to your peers. What exactly you are picking matters little.
Edit: I should say what the choices are matter little.
Blizzard is clearly not forcing anyone to play the game. But some people enjoy playing the game a certain way why try to frustrate them?
If you really wanted to have meaningful choices go back to looking at races changes and factions transfers or old respec cost or azerith respec cost or even server transfer. They are just things paywalled, that’s what happens with “meaningful” choices. They don’t really lock it, they just make you pay for it. And that’s a terrible concept.

I disagree. Some are so far and above better for PVP, it’s just hamstringing yourself if you dont take them. So if you want to pvp and do any other content, you’re at a major disadvantage if you dont take the PVP ones, even if one may be better or have better transmog or w/e

I hope you’re not the type to say racials don’t matter. I haven’t been looking too closely, but I imagine there are plenty of individuals getting heated over being stuck with a covenant, but also brush off racials as a factor for min-maxing whenever the discussion comes up.
That being said, I don’t see where locking players into a covenant is really adding to the game play. It’s akin to letting us choose a talent once and to change it we gotta reroll the character, which is stupid and everyone knows it.
Rewarding people with more for sticking around longer seems like a more agreeable approach. People will fight to leave somewhere they don’t want to be, but they’ll be hard pressed to give up a time investment, especially the greater their investment becomes.

Didn’t read comments but I just have to say I feel Flying is somewhat forced, in particular Path 2 where you are forced to go to Mech/Nazj even if u weren’t around when it was the main patch, in order to complete the whole achieve and be able to fly around in current expansion, This isn’t a complaint, just my thought on the thread
