It’s significant that Activision has decided to close a large Blizzard office in France, solidifying their hold on the company. As more people bail out of Blizzard’s employ and other companies are started by those same people, I’m wondering what Blizzard’s future is going to look like. Of course the future of WoW concerns me as well, but not so much since I can just go play something else.
I feel like this is a significant time for WoW. I think it’ll take a year or two to play out, but we’re getting ready to see what Activision’s vision for WoW looks like.

I’m ready to jump on the either Ashes of Creation or New World, the future of WoW doesn’t bother me at all, I’m glad it’s not over yet but I won’t cry when it is.

Im going to do both. AoC for the PVP and New World for the PVE.

Their vision has been obvious for years now. Time played metrics, low cost development for a decent payout even if it’s crap content that gets pushed to live, etc.

the major difference between Ashes of Creation and acti-bliz is that Aoc isn’t beholden to shareholders.

Not gonna lie, I completely forgot AoC was a thing. Didn’t they turn that game into a Battle Royal or something?
That will make a difference. AoC will at least be trying to make the game they want to make. I will probably head back to FFXIV, along with games on the PS5…or I’ll start making keyboards. I should have time.

i think you may be thinking of a different game. if youre hinting to pvp, its like most games in that regards, you can opt in or out of it.
I think it was Pantheon I was thinking of.
The cheap, overly shiny and ad based phone games/apps have taken over the Blizzard style and unique feel. It’s clear that they knew this day would come. Shadowlands might even be a play on that? The final resting place for the creative side and influence they once had…

yea i’ll play the AoC beta and start a new business
them 2 incoming flops oh baby xD. You’ll be back in 3 expansions to complain again.
The major difference is one isn’t actually released yet.
WoW’s future is simple unless something changes. I foresee that in the end, it will be sat on by IP lawyers who demand a massively over-valued price from anyone who might take the franchise in a better direction. Just watch. The first group that makes a ‘spiritual successor’ to WoW, will be attack-dogged by Activision lawyers; even if it’s different in plot or story.
The first time you see a new MMO or start-up that tries to pitch a story where “Orcs that are noble and not evil” some triggered lawyer will scream it’s Blizzard’s even though that concept is far older than them in the form of Elder Scrolls.

…Activision and Blizzard merged twelve years ago. And you think now Activision is trying to “solidify their hold on Blizzard”?

I don’t know if any mmo is going to get close to the gameplay polish that wow has
You push a button and the ability goes off
Other games seem to put to much emphasis on animations, like ffxiv and bdo, or it’s too snappy
There’s a perfect touch here that I like and don’t want to let go of
Blizzard doesnt have a future anymore.

Don’t forget more and more micro-transactions.
