Blizzard worried RoF is overtaking CB in ST

Well no :poop: it is! Chaos Bolt has been absolutely trash for years now. It has a long cast time, hits like a wet noodle, and looks plain weird. In contrast Rain of Fire is instant cast, does decent damage, and one of the most visually stunning spells in the game. I for one was perfectly happy to go into TWW spamming RoF in both ST and AoE.

So what did they do to address this concern? Not buff CB, that’s for damn sure! None of the changes they’re implemented does anything to resolve the underlying issues and amounts to a straight up nerf to the entire spec (which may have been warranted given the DPS numbers Destro has been putting out on the Beta, but that’s a separate issue).

P.S. I was referring to this post if it wasn’t clear.

I am really not a fan of how they handled this situation.

First of all pyrogenics should just not exist, then buff cb a bit, make improved chaos bolt baseline, and further decrease it’s cast time by a little bit.

All they did was ruin avatar and infernal, and accomplish absolutely nothing, if the problem is still gonna be there you might as well have done nothing at all.

These changes are nonsense. They amount to less than nothing because they make the rotation feel worse, while not solving the problem.

I was pretty satisfied with destruction in tww, but now… I’m seeing a certain pattern with warlock. And i’m not liking it.

Well good news! RoF is still a dps gain over Chaos Bolt for both Hellcaller and Diabolist.

You’re not supposed to spam it anyway, the reason why it’s used is because it’s more efficient at spending soul shards. Because of it’s insta cast, as opposed to chaos bolt which has a cast time.

RoF in single target is degenerate

rain of fire damage is irrelevant to the discussion though

Maybe, but as long as it’s an instant cast soul shard dump and the hero talents reward shard dumping it’s going to be the play.

Just look at how Diabolic Ritual, Blackened Soul and Malevolence work.

I know, I was just pointing that out too. It’s all about cycling through your Soul Shards more efficiently. Idk what they expected we would do when they designed the hero talents that way. They created the problem and instead of fixing it made it worse.

Even at 0 damage it’s still better to press. All RoF does is help to cycle back to those big buffs on cb quicker.
RoF in ST is clunky and not very fun.
