If you trade retail gold for classic gold, your account will get banned.

This GM needs to go back to the Everquest Guide program and do some homework. By his own words, when you purchase a wow token and use it to purchase gold in retail and then trade that gold to another person for an item, it is a type of “real money trading”.
Simplified: By his own words, as soon as you buy a wow token, if you don’t use it for game time, you’ve broken the ToS. Try a GM that knows what they are talking about and will understand that you cannot have one without the other.
The FACT is, both are technically “real money trading” and they have chosen to allow gold buying from their own source. What players do with that gold after the fact only interests Blizzard if the gold is being re-traded for “real money”, not alternate in-game currency. I.e. Mythic+ dungeon, raids, mount, pets or gold on other servers.
That GM needs to be fired, he’s an idiot. Of course it’s real money trading. We pay $20 for a token in live. Real money is issued to Blizzard. A person buys that token for gold. So, our real money was used to buy gold.
This time, it’s crossing game “ecosystems” (as Ion calls it), so it’s not staying within retail WoW as usual. I see where he’s coming from.
Hey, that’s consistent with “no changes.”
Buying gold back in the day was a punishable offense.
It is no different than me buying a wow token, trading it for gold in retail, using that gold to make more gold on the Ah and then taking all of that gold to buy more wow tokens and add station cash to my account and then go spend that money in Overwatch, Hearthstone, ect. THAT is also crossing ecosystems and is completely allowed.
But it’s not allowed in Classic, except to buy game time.
I mean, take it up with the guys at Blizzard.
I don’t think many people will care about trading between retail and classic. What they’ll do instead is just buy or sell the classic gold directly.
I think that the “real money trading” thing has to do specifically with Classic, though maybe GMs have yet to be properly trained on this topic (seems as niche as it gets).
“So just to be completely transparent, that’s a unique case since it would only be a thing with Classic releasing.”
classic wont be classic with ppl buying gold if was banable offence back then and it should still be if u don’t like it play retail and stay away from classic
While this GM’s reasoning is flawed I genuinely hope they do not allow it. The economy needs to be a sealed unit separate from retail in all aspects.
I would support a crack down on any organized Classic <-> Retail gold trading just as I would support a crack down on any Classic gold <-> Real Currency trading.
I agree.
I hope they formally announce that it is forbidden and pursue those who do it but by their own current guidelines it is perfectly acceptable.
Its alarming how many people are willing to tolerate a WoW Token. These people have no concept of a subscription based game and will give any excuse to defend blizzard for trying to cheapen the game. If you’re for a WoW Token: World of Warcraft Classic is not for you and we don’t want you playing.
title is a little misleading, he was asking the GM if he first bought a token and then traded the gold from the token for gold in Classic , not if he already had the gold without having bought a token and then traded that, he left out a step in his title.
gold use to mean something back in the day u had 100 gold u were king but if ppl buy gold it will take away that important aspect of how classic felt
where is that chat from?
This happens on private servers all the time. People want to switch to horde or a TBC server and request some sort of trade. It will happen in classic too. The only thing is that 100 gold in classic will be worth half a million gold in retail. So good luck.
I understand people using wow tokens to pay for game time. In retail it’s quite easy to make gold. It become ridiculous how people are using the auction house to make gold though by simply purchasing game time and selling it for gold. While this doesn’t really bother me on retail it would annoy the f outta me on classic. I hope these wow tokens don’t make it to classic. It definitely ruins the classic economy And makes it entirely to easy to make gold in classic. I mean after all that was a very real part about classic …gold actually meant something and it wasn’t near as easy to obtain.
lol I don’t the exchange rate would be that high, but it would be up there for sure.
