I agree. I had escape pods in the form of level 1 Shadina’s on a couple of realms for a while because I didn’t know when I would wanna transfer.
One problem. Not every race has last names. Trolls do not use last names. Draenei do not use last names. Vulpera do not have last names (minus one exception in Zuldazar).
The amount of races this would apply to wouldn’t be consistent, which means there’s no actual lore backing behind this suggestion.
Last names in most modern MMOs are just account names, not actual last names.
if i dont play during 2 expacs my toon gets deleted? Cause i would love to recover the warrior i used to play back in tbc… I can’t find him tho.
because the accounts are active.
I like the last name systems in the games I’ve tried them with, I have almost never (and by that I mean like once) not got more or less exactly the name I wanted. A ton more room for obscure references and like that.
I’m aware, but in the post I am responding to, this is included:
There’d be no connection to a character when you have a broad last name which has nothing to do with the actual race since racial last names are a thing in WoW. You have blood elves and tauren on the same faction and both of them have very different last names. Same deal with orcs and goblins having very different last names.
There would need to be another solution. Either individual account based last names where every character has a different one based on proper racial identity, or some other kind of solution. But I don’t think there’s a naming problem. If people want a name, and they cannot get it, then they need to come up with another one which makes sense.
this.
that’s why I’m annastasi instead of annastasia
the world didn’t end when i had to slightly modify the name last time I xferred this character.
no.
the names.
blizzard don’t delete characters.
unless you deleted it, it should be right where you left it
Yeah, I’m aware of your stance on the matter. One of the few issues we’ve butted heads over in the past. You likely ain’t going to change your mind, and I for sure ain’t until Blizzard fixes this mess.
So, eh. Agree to disagree, Champ.
A blue posted that it changed when they moved to the automatic system. The names still become eligible after 2 expansions that the account is inactive, but the characters don’t get renamed unless someone tries to take the name.
the characters do get renamed, and this can be verified by players.
however, if the name doesn’t get taken by someone else, the player who originally used the name can re-name their character to the same thing.
(otherwise, there wouldn’t be a prompt for the original name-holder to rename the character, because the name wouldn’t be available if someone else used it)
Then there’s people like me who would ruin it with a last name like Danafofannafeefifonanna
I mean, I can verify it the other way in that I have personally had accounts go over that 2 expansion timeframe and not needed to rename any characters because nobody tried to take the name.
Would love to see someone in the last year or so that had all of their characters renamed with numbers post here because ti didn’t work like that on my previous battle.net account that has accounts that have been inactive for many expansions.
i’d be interested in seeing this post…
because it has changed over time, and the 2nd name release caused issues with names on active accounts being purged.
i still have characters which were caught up in that… and all of them have numbers at the end of their names, even though the names aren’t in use.
that’s a super old thread.
…maybe i’m the one working from old info here.
And? There is also a blue post that doesn’t contradict it that was made like 2 days ago.
and… notice how it says “how the system currently works”?
which implies that the system hasn’t worked the same all along.
i did state that i may have been working from old info, but… sure, get the pitchfork out.
however, the information which i’m able to verify by myself, shows differently to what is being stated.
find some friends or guildies who haven’t played in years, check their names.
do you not find it odd that all of their names now contain letters?
…even the ridiculously obscure names which are just a keyboard mash?
I CANNOT hit Like enough times!
