Personally I think it just depends on how it’s interpreted. Could someone make a Malazan series, movie, or game that stays true to the spirit without going into the ridiculously convoluted mythology? Maybe. Should they? Ehhhhh

Well, firstly, there WERE offers made to buy the IP, and NCsoft said noooooo.
NCsoft erased the very existence of the game from the internet as much as it could. Web site and forums nuked within hours of the game’s demise, soundtrack music nuked from all streaming services within days.
Basically, they don’t want you to have it, and they don’t want anyone else to let you have it.
The only way the game is returning will be via “private” servers.
I do get that it probably fits the current WoW dev model of HARRRRRRRDCORRRRRRRRE and GIT GUD and all that, by the way… but it’s for those same exact reasons that people have been fleeing WoW by the millions.

Yeah the hardcore raid design was a bit much. I just want to play it again because leveling was one of the best experiences ive had in a mmorpg. I couldn’t put the game down at the time.
It also had the best version of housing in a mmorpg.

They should do a pirate mmo. Just make it like Black Flag cross with WoW. 7 Seas to explore. Pirates vs Ninjas expansion, Steampunk expansion. Pirate themed races and classes. Ship customization. Wanted poster system; killing the top PVP player to get crazy gold.
Mm… that would be my ideal game.

I was actually looking for a good sailing-included game recently… The verdict was that there aren’t any.
The best sailing experience I’ve had in a game in a long time was Valheim, and it’s such a small part of the game that it doesn’t really count in my book, and that game was early access when I was playing it.
I should go back and check it’s progress… that game was boss af.
Nah, it wasn’t a good game. Let it stay dead.
They’re not trying to kill it. They figured out they can put a lot less effort in and make the same amount of money from whales with micro transactions.

Because believe it or not there are still fans of that game out there that don’t like the fact that it’s gone. They’d love to play it again, especially since it had one of the best housing systems in the MMO genre. A developer/publisher like Blizzard could turn that game into what it should have been, which was an MMO that appealed to all audiences, not just the hardcore players.
More people jumping into the game = More revenue for Blizzard and also more players, especially if they right the ship, because yeah, the way Carbine Studios handled it was poor.
