I’m pretty sure you can only see their spec if both players are using the same addon.

No, you can tell as long as you’re within range of their combat log. It scans it just like that anti rogue addon.
Different specs have different passive auras. Holy naturally enhances healing spells as an example.
TFW you are assigned to heal main tank then accidentally pop Shadowform while dueling in Kargath XD

Perhaps we are thinking of different addons. I can be in range of a players combat log and still have no insight on their spec choices.

Its Details. And it requires both players to have it.
Any other mods are just making a guess based on abilities they see used.

the only addon that I know of that lets you inspect someone’s spec is “Details!”.
Details requires both players to have it to see though and doesn’t actually show any tooltips in its breakdown. While people know generally what specs are, some people still don’t so maybe they won’t understand the mini breakdown that it gives you as well. Either way, this is a very, opt-in sort of thing and not global. Don’t want people to see your spec? use Recount instead of Details! for your damage / healing / dispel etc meters.

One of my least favorite memories was wiping because the healer was in his DPS spec and lacked the efficiency that came with being in the right spec.

That’s what I started doing once I found out details was snooping and I couldn’t turn it off.
I liked details, but the developers keep adding more and more features that I don’t want, bloating it up. I just wanted a lightweight damage meter, and that was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Because he’s selfish and is willing to sacrifice the time and repair costs of 39 people for his own personal amusement.
Oh, and he’s not willing to openly tell them about it, because he knows that what he is doing is wrong.

That’s the only reason I can think of, despite having 1 raidspot its not exactly difficult to find a group as Spriest.

I think the add-on is fine. It really helps when dagger rogue rolls on a sword for example (I don’t play a rogue) so you can tell them to pound sand.
They just blow right up, you didn’t know that? Huh.

Recount is not accurate, has extremely poor memory management and is looks to be written by a 5 year old.
Most players are pretty bad/sloppy, so they need their healers to be maxed & perfect to compensate.
