So pet battles aren’t wow either then, just “slightly less of an issue”?
What exactly is your point? You just want to be a contrarian.
I want to be clear your issue with plunderstorm isn’t that it’s not wow, it’s that you don’t like it. Because even if it was fully integrated in WoW you’d still want it gone, and things that aren’t WoW gameplay but are in WoW (Like pokemon knock off pet battles) don’t bother you.
You can say you don’t like something, you don’t need to make up excuses.
The difference is, pet battles don’t reward cosmetics or mounts.
So it has nothing to do with what is or isn’t wow, it’s just something you don’t like that awards something you want.
Its not contrarian, pet battles are in WoW but dont use WoW’s combat system, many of the games at the darkmoon fair or even certain quests don’t use WoW’s combat system but they’re all still world of warcraft because they’re contained within the game.
For you, what makes something WoW or not WoW is if you don’t like it.
Follow me here. I’ll try to break it down so even you can understand it.
I have a problem with “not wow activities” rewarding “actual wow cosmetics”. If pet battles had mogs tied to it, I’d have a problem with it.
I despise wow pvp. I hate arena, I hate RBGs, I hate anything dealing with pvp and rating. I don’t have a problem with wow pvp rewarding mogs/mounts. Because as much as I don’t like it, it’s part of actual wow.
So hundreds of unique battle pets aren’t cosmetics?
And you can earn tickets to buy those mogs in other ways like the quest item drops.
Just in case you missed it.
No.
I’m trying to get into games right now and 2 of the 3 the lobbies never filled and I just left. Wow, was not expecting this.
I’m grateful for the changes. Last time, there was an anxiety for me because I wanted the mounts and achievements (guess that makes me whiny and pathetic). I wasn’t very good so lots of early deaths and then I’m looking at how much I need to do to get what I want. It was stressful and frustrating
Fast forward to now and I’ve bought the pets and mounts. I’m a bit more carefree about it. I’d like to get the mogs but it’s ok if I don’t.
I’m doing some games with friends to help them get stuff and having more fun. The fact there is less grind and having mobs respawn increases your plunder, I’m now ok with early deaths.
Even if I get everything, I’ll be more inclined to go back and help other people do it. It’s just more fun for me.
I get what OP is saying, but I was definitely thinking about skipping this time. And honestly, sometimes other players are very aggressive in this play mode and it can become a repeating loop of frustration for those that don’t enjoy it.
The Plunderstore was the best decision they could have made in regard to this event. Now it’s a far more chill experience for those who want it to be while the core gameplay remains the same for those looking to enjoy the PvP side of it.
The sweaties are just worried that after the FOMO victims are done with the grind, they’ll slip their chains and flee, and the “I love PvP” crowd will remember they don’t actually enjoy PvP so much as ganking semi-unwilling victims.
the game mode is only there as a filler, it succeeds at doing what it needs to do
give people something to do for a week or so to get all the items they want and move on
Personally I skipped out on the last Plunderstorm because of the terrible renown track. I’m now finding myself queing for more and more games since I can just buy whatever I want.
I’ll be playing through the entirety of the event but I do kind of miss having something to work toward throughout the whole event. I don’t really care about much that’s available in the store and I pretty much have everything I want already.
So you want to FORCE players to be “retained” for your enjoyment, the exact players who hate it and don’t want to be there? Okay then!
A game should succeed because enough people enjoy it and want to play it, not because you hold us hostage with rewards.
I hate it, and I loved how I am already done with it.
“Forcing players to do something they hate and find tedious is good for player retention” is a weird hill to die on.
