Blizzard saying nova is working as intended

edit: the bug has been fixed since making this post, so just ignore it. ty blizzard.

i know everyone is probably tired of this topic and i wish i didnt feel the need to make another post, but it needs to be either fixed or publicly addressed by blizzard.

if this post is to be believed, then blizzard has looked into the nova bug and is saying its working as intended, or atleast the same as their reference client. but in any mage video from back in TBC you can clearly see that this isnt how nova used to work. if blizzard doesnt fix the nova bug its going to ruin arenas and bgs.

blizzard only has one chance to get TBC right, i really hope they get it right (which theyre currently not).

if anyone at blizzard sees this:
blizzard, as much as you like your reference client, theres video proof that its wrong, and that nova is not working as intended. please fix it before it ruins pvp. a bug like this has huge implications for arenas.

how do I take a look at these videos?

Maybe the OG game was bugged and they learned to love warlock tears. I’d bet my bottom dollar you can’t land a shatter combo in 90% of the situations you think you can. Nova is easy to break.

Summary of the bug report: “Here are a handful of data points I’m using to extrapolate the break chance algorithm and it doesn’t jive with my memory or a handful of other data points from 10+ year old videos.”

Summary of response: “Your memory is flawed and limited data points from old videos do not constitute proof otherwise”

Summary of OP disposition: REEEEEE TO THE FORUMS!

lol, based off of their “reference client” right?

They just don’t want to do any work.

The only person left at Blizzard that could probably tell what TBC was actually like now heads Retail - Ion.

theres a few links in the post that i linked, this video also has alot of examples as well

Watching too many private server videos…

i mean when every single video that ive seen from TBC shows that nova in actual TBC is working differently from how it is on beta, im going to go with the assumption that what blizzard is basing it off of is wrong.

heres one uploaded from 2007 if you dont think the other videos are from real TBC and not private servers. you can find plenty more videos like it that show the exact same thing.

to be fair, i give them the benefit of the doubt on the reference client being right most of the time. but theres videos from back in original TBC that show nova working differently from how it is on beta.

So if I reading this right, we are believing a random poster on github that says the devs have looked it over multiple times and it’s fine.

Is there something I’m missing? Is this poster someone of value? Does he have anything to prove that the devs have stated this? Or are we just believing a random poster?

Wait, so people have a crappy 14 year old memory? Or they’re confusing private servers with how it was in TBC?

I’m shocked!!!

They basically lied to our faces about not having data, etc. It’s just me, I’m not taking anything they say at face value any more.

this video uploaded from 2007 shows it working differently from how it does on beta. its not just private servers that were working differently from how it is now.

Patch 2.0.10

Mages

  • Increased the chance Frozen effects are broken when the target is critically struck by a spell.

wow we are playing with this nerf already in place!!! Could you imagine how strong frost nova was before this??? Haha probably 8 ice lances in a row xDD

if thats the case then the nerf isnt properly implemented on the beta. as ive said in other comments, theres plenty of videos from back in tbc that show nova working differently from how it does on beta. i have yet to see a single video from tbc that doesnt show nova not breaking from more than 1-3 ice lances.

If Blizzard comes out and officially says “Yeah, pumping five 2k lances into a single nova is working as intended” then I’ll accept that. It will undoubtedly change the PvP meta quite a bit, but I’d be fine with it.

What is irritating to me is that my own memories (I was 20+ at the time, not a child) and the 2007-2008 videos I have from Warcraftmovies are both contradicting Blizzard’s narrative here that 10k worth of ice lances into a single nova is “how it worked back then”.

Yeah because it’s clearly bugged. The poster on github is clearly full of SH. People make stuff up on the internet.

im well aware of that. but blizzard needs to address this in one way or another, because it still hasnt been fixed on the beta and pre patch comes out today, with TBC being less than two weeks away at this point.

Yeah luckily arena doesn’t hit until a couple weeks or a week (i can’t remember) after tbc so they have some time until it really matters.

But generally with bugs, they don’t “announce” anything. They just fix them. If they had to make an announcement about every bug they were working on that would give someone a full time job lol
