Blizzard said they would "prefer that healers spend their time healing" during an interview with Morgan Day

I can’t imagine there would be content that pegs HPS at 100% uptime, because that either gets defeated by outgearing it or it sets a hard floor for anyone to even attempt it.

Me when I was playing disc, spamming shadowmend

Disc is exempt because by it’s very existence, it does damage to heal.

you sound like an absolute joy to be around. Also equating interrupts to to healer bonus dmg kinda cringe. interrupts are a basic mechanic and healer dmg is generally just bonus dmg unless the content is high enough.

If you want to be a casual healer then by all means do ONLY what you think you need to do. Just don’t complain when you get into higher end, more competitive gameplay and get removed and everyone will be happy.

Then you are wrong and I can’t wait for the blah healers need to learn to do there jobs posts…this has gone into stupidity. MUTED BS POST!

This is my point though, these guys want to force high end min max gameplay on everyone in all content or kick. When the content gets high enough i know what to do, and everyone else running said content knows whats expected, but these ego monsters got zero chill.

Disc has more opportunities to do damage because of its nature, but Holy can absolutely still get DPS out. SWP is a great space-filler.

Then they heal. If people are low they heal. If people are healthy and no damage in incoming then they should dps

It’s about repetition and forming good habits during play. Slacking off isn’t something that should be encouraged. Sure, if your group all decides ‘we’re just not gonna try as hard’ then go ahead and do whatever, but if you join a random team, then you need to put your best forward or you’re not respecting their time.

I mean by the same standards though, dps shouldn’t be concerned with their defensives because that’s not their job to decrease dmg or self heal. If you’re fine with that then I see no issue.

and youre right in the lower level content they dont even have to.

If that’s the same mentality being argued by people then there’s no hypocrisy at least.

This gave me traumatic flashbacks of casting downranked FoLs in TBC.

I think you’re reading too deeply into it. It’s a philosophical argument about what constitutes good play.

Nobody expects perfect play at lower levels, not from any role. But also nobody thinks “yeah, it’s okay for DPS or Tanks to spend 20-50% of any given encounter doing literally nothing”.

I feel like a lot of people are conflating people talking about low keys and people talking about high keys. If someone who regularly runs 20s or above comes in and says that they expect their healers not to waste any GCDs, do you really think that person spends their time queuing up for +4s just to find some healers to berate?

Once my key level gets high enough I don’t go back down unless I’m specifically helping a guildie and if that’s happening we’re probably running a full guild group. People who play this way aren’t going to show up in your random Heroic dungeon to tell you that you’re playing wrong. The reverse is also true. You’re not going to find these casual players who normally don’t go higher than a +10 in a +20 key unless they got seriously lost in the group finder.

So please, can we stop taking the things people say and pretend that they mean it universally across all key levels?

So…. As a healer I do….

3k healing per second and 8k damage per second (overall) with a good group.

7k healing per second and 8k damage per second (overall) in a bad group.

Why is it that my dps numbers don’t change yet my healing numbers do? It’s because, in a good group, 3k healing per second is needed for unavoidable damage and the group avoiding damage allows me to free cast a lot and in a bad group, the avoidable damage makes my over healing turn into effective healing OR actually killing the player. If I were to just heal, I’d do practically nothing in a dungeon. That seems selfish and not fun.

Healer damage is not a bonus. its part of their kit. they need to use their kit.

I’m not entirely clear about what constitutes as a “bonus” or not. Me pressing Berserk isn’t required to complete a lot of dungeons, especially low level dungeons. But no one calls me using Berserk a bonus given that it’s my major damage cooldown. How about Shadowmeld then? That’s my racial but the way it interacts with Rake turns it into a stun and deals double damage. Is that a bonus or expected? What about Soothe? Is it a bonus or expected for me to Soothe mobs?

I’m just trying to figure out the rules here. What’s the difference between me being expected to use an ability and an ability being a bonus? Because so far it all seems very arbitrary.

yeah. Maybe bonus is what you would consider what a skilled person would do?
