Blizzard: Retune Your GPU to CPU Relationships

I have an I9-9900X.
I usually see WoW using at most 3 or 4 CPU cores, and each half if that.

A CPU has more computing power to handle data flow, while the 1 to 2 CPU cores with 2 to 4 threads, won’t do much, here’s the issue.

By using GPU primary graphics, systems, data flow, and data processing,…?
This is called proverbially shooting oneself in the foot.

My current tower’s CPU has 10 cores, 20 threads.
I get to use at most 3 or 4 threads.

That’s at best 33 & 1/3rd % performance. 25% plus built in overclocking.
Meanwhile, with TWIN SLI GPU’s of Titan RTX’s, with an SLI bridge, I can get MAYBE 60 Hz.
MAYBE.

The old zone of Dragonblight especially near the old dragon plant caves is horrendous.
I am begging and pleading with you, PLEASE!

By setting the CPU to use 100% resources to source and shift data, the system’s bottlenecking is based on parts and not software.

I have:
I9-9900X, x48 PCI-E 3.0 BUS
128 GB ~3000 rated GBRAM, DDR4 or 5
2 TB SSD
Twin SLI Titan RTX’s
i299 Motherboard, Gaming rated.
… And others, et. al., etc.

In other words, your game is at least partially cooking a very decent and now outdated $10,000 gift because the software won’t let the hardware do what it does best.

I’m currently facing paying for a replacement and selling the current one for science or donation, rather than using the current system.

Your WoW Classic iteration count is always a bit higher than Live.

Ancient game engine is completely cpu bound. They would need to start over to fix it.

heats up my 13900k pretty good at the very maximum settings/1440p.

everything maxxed out except raytracing off, i think i could leave the heater off this winter lol

havnt looked at how many cores are being used or not though.

new stuff seems heavier than stuff in the old world. i can hear my fans calming down when i leave dragonflight for a visit of the old world.

weirdly enough a lot of the old world stuff looks better to me than the new stuff. textures are “flatter” but theres a charm to it.

This is why even a few years ago, I would buy an I-3 because at the time, WoW only used 1 core and clock speed was more important than having a bunch of cores.

Right now my main rig is an I-3 8100 Mac mini with a 550 gpu because pc is an I-3 7100 but the graphics card is a 1030 but only has 2 GB ram and can’t com close to the Mac.

FWIW I got the pc by trading in an old phone and it’s a small form factor that only takes half height cards or I would have upgraded it.

This is why I was hopeful for the MS merger, I would buy an XBOX in a heartbeat just to play WoW on as it’s the only game I play and only reason I need anything more than a phone, tablet or basic computer

They know what computers most people who play wow have so that’s what they’re focusing on. Imagine if they were to start optimizing the game for someone with a pentium 4 cpu. The same goes for the opposite. It’s just not worth the time, money and effort until more people are using said system configurations.

Intersting. I’ve been working through disconnect issues that I thought were GPU related. My CPU is the i5 12400. I was actually thinking of rebuilding with an AMD based machine. My older Ryzen/Nvidea machine runs Dragonflight fine.

Something that’s odd to me is that some time around MoP or WoD, they stopped providing specularity maps for ground textures which makes the ground everywhere have a 100% matte looking texture, whereas before different parts of the ground had different levels of light reflectivity so e.g. leaves, smooth spots on cobblestones, etc had a “shine” and reflected more light, as you’d expect of those things. They also used this to give snow in Dun Morough, Winterspring, Storm Peaks, etc that “glittering” quality that real life snow has.

Probably where this is most visible is on the Arathi Highlands/Hillsbrad Foothills border, where the revamped Arathi has those ultra-matte textures and Hillsbrad still has its specularity in its textures. It’s odd, even though neo-Arathi’s textures are more detailed Hillsbrad’s feel more alive.

Dragon Islands runs pretty well on my 5950X/3080Ti build, with 90-120FPS in most parts of the open world on ultra with raytracing enabled @ 2560x1440. It dives to 60-80 in Valdrakken but it seems like everybody’s FPS sucks there.

i feel like it needs optimizations but i cant whine since its still playable. def notice the drop from steady 165 to 80-90 tho. its a spot all of us are going to spent a lot of time at…
