Grobbulus is the only RP-PVP server type and as such it is attracting a wide variety of people from West to East. If you look on the server demographics poll on the Grobbulus subreddit the majority of people who answered are actually East Coast, then Central, with Pacific actually being the minority.
When I connected to a Chicago server on the test-realm my ping was 60ms. It was 90-100ms on the LA server. It leaves a bad feeling in my stomach knowing that my connectivity will be significantly worse because as a Maritime Canadian I’m forced to connect to LA if I want to enjoy the only RP-PVP server.
On retail, every RP-PVP server was based out of Chicago. Seeing as there is only 1 RP-PVP server for Classic and all indications are that it will actually be dominated by East Coast and Central time zones, it only makes sense to have it based out of Chicago and to attach a Central time zone so as to be neutral as possible and welcome as many prospective RP-PVPers as possible. Thanks!

OMG now people are asking blizz to relocate servers!

It might actually make sense…

Actually I agree, If they are only going to have 1 server for a server-type they should put it central time.

Referenced poll, for what it’s worth:

Regardless of the poll results, I agree with the OP. If there’s only one of a server type, it should be centrally located. That’s somewhat of a no brainer Blizz…

Both the rp and rppvp servers should be centrally located

You can play via satellite as Warlock, 1000 ping is just fine for you, and yet you will only have, what, 100?
True story-
I used to lead free to play bracket (20-24) on a lvl 20 free to play hunter from time to time via satellite, at best 1000 latency.
I was literally playing from space and I still did well.

As an OCE player i laugh at people complaining about a 60ms difference…

It’s really more about the principle. People will be turned away from the server due to the LA location and Pacific timezone, and seeing as how it’s the only RP-PVP server a more central location just seems more appropriate. An additional 30ms may not be significant (although it arguably is for PVP), but I’ve read at least a dozen forum posts with people saying they’re not rolling on Grobbulus for this reason alone.

I’m one of those people. 60 ms is the difference for me between EST and PST servers. Will be rolling EST PvP or RP, undecided which part of RP-PVP I value more.
100% agree with OP. While I think both RP servers should be centrally located, at the very least, given the information collected, the RP and RP-PVP server locations should be switched.

As it is, this server is going to die. Every EST server is Medium or better with 2 being High. Grobb is still Low.
The decision to ignore the EST majority killed this server. Anyone who disagrees plays on the West Coast.
And this will have future ramifications. Blizzard will say " I thought you said you wanted RP PVP? Why is hardly anyone playing on it?"

Do you know for a fact that it isn’t on the Chicago data center already?
NVM: just checked. It is in LA.
If the only people who end up on Grobbulus are the current members of the Discord, I’m fine with that. Everyone over their is completely hyped for the RP-PVP server, no matter their timezone.
I’m EST and get consistent 75ms on PST servers, and most of the guilds are recruiting for EST raid times over there. Since there’s only one server of it’s type, you’ll find whatever it is you’re looking for, on it.

You are underestimsting the volume of people on the Grobb Discord just to troll it. Strawpolls on Reddit clearly indicate that Blizzard ignored the majority of the RP PVP community with this decision.
Your server is in trouble. You are planning to make progress on a server that is going to die. Not a risk I’m going to take.
