It was called third party character boosting/buying back then and was the same process of “inputting credit card information”. Just this time around Blizzard want to make the money off their own intellectual property instead of some prison warden in China.
When the most common argument in favor of nerfing mage aoe boosting is the fact that it damages the integrity of the game (whatever that even really means) then the 58 boost is an incredibly relevant topic. Also, when the mage boost is used as an example constantly in every 58 boost thread to defend it, naturally it should be expected that the 58 boost be used to defend mage boosting in these threads.
The presence of the boost is a clear indicator that Blizzard doesn’t care about the 1-58 leveling experience and they have essentially stated as much. This, at least to me, means that any change that may be made to mage boosting cannot be made in the name of preserving leveling integrity because they have already shown that they don’t care.
The other main issue with mage boosting is its relation to gold buying and selling. In my opinion, the buyers of gold who then buy boosts are essentially doing the exact same thing as people who would be buying the 58 boost except for the fact that the money goes into a third party’s hands rather than Blizzard’s.
On the gold selling side I would argue that the fact that it is a concern is entirely the fault of Blizzard’s ineptitude and I absolutely disagree with any change that harms regular players that is due to Blizzard’s failures. Regardless, even if mage boosting was nerfed I doubt gold selling would hardly be significantly impacted. The demand for bought gold will always exist and, due to the relevance of bots and the apparent inability to deal with them, the supply will be fine as well with or without mage boosts.
Ultimately my main concern is the fact that people are trying to limit player creativity and freedom in the name of something that has already been demolished by an official service that many of those same people support. If you want the integrity of the leveling process to stay intact then you had better be adamantly opposed to the boost because they are linked. If Blizzard makes a change to one but not a proportional change to the other it screams greed and I personally do not support changes that harm many normal players for the sake of helping Bobby get his bonus.
except that wont work if they match TBC experience. You pull without doing damage drop group get person getting boosted to tag with any aoe ability then aoe them all down. They get full exp and the max level doesn’t tax any. Its like 10x more op then classic.
Get over it, it’s how the game was back then… you can’t have it both ways pal.
I mean, yes this does seem like what was happening when I started playing the game back in TBC.
IMO it’s fine that a fast option exists for levelling. People who want to do it will do it, people who don’t want to won’t.
But I’ll recognise there are good arguments for it’s removal, specifically that it would slow down levelling bots severely.
The real problem is that Blizzard cannot program or control Human nature at the end of the day. There will always be those for whom “the ends justify the means”. They are the ones who will tell you that it cannot be stealing if there are no police around to catch you. Even if Blizzard tried to program out every known exploit in their servers, I almost guarantee you there would be those peeps who would find another type of one to exploit as that is just the nature of some people. Laziness, greed, and those seeking instant gratification or a way to cheat simply cannot be programmed out of people by Blizzard.
Although I am willing to bet they would be awarded a Nobel prize if they could!!
Thanks.
