I have played this game as MM my entire life. I have collected so many pets that I love to play with over that time. I still have my Burning Crusade Ghost wolf (Howlejandro) and he’s my character’s best friend. I always use my pet whether its a DPS cut or not, I do not care about that. When you remove pets with this patch, the singular ranged hunter/ single pet fantasy is just completely gone from the game. I am beyond upset about this. Please don’t. I am literally begging you.
100% agree.
While I can understand moving alot of hunter pet utility to the eagle I still think that we should be given the choice to have a pet or not. Tenacity pets expecialy make great tanks while leveling which is why I always have my pet out when I play marksmanship. What I would do is have the Eagle replace the pet Via a spell like the Warlocks Tome of Sacrifice, thus allowing hunters to chose to have their eagle or a regular hunter pet.
Alternatively, they can just bake their halfbrained eagle idea into all pets so that MM can have the same functionality that they are going for no matter what pet they choose.
This would be fine, there is absolutely no reason to completely remove a major core of the hunter class fantasy. This is the most absurd way to deal with lone wolf they could have come up with.
MM hunters should not have to use a pet to have utility. Forcing one upon us is not a solution. This is an awful idea.
Pets have been a core part of the class fantasy since release. I don’t care if you use one or not and we have a right to be saddened by the fact that they’re forcibly removing the ability to have one completely. I do not care about utility or any of that. Not everyone plays to be an elite mythic raider or whatever. Don’t use a pet, nothing is stopping you. However, something IS STOPPING US from using a pet at all after this update.
I will be odd-one-out and say that I think MM spec has been stale for quite some time and like the new direction they are taking. I can see that comfortability and consistency that all my fellow hunters here are at first resistant to change, and completely sympathize. Those with memories and nostalgia dating back to Vanilla.
However, much like the great change to Survival back in Legion, it was a change that opened the door for new players to enjoy a different flavor of hunter (being melee). That being said, I feel for you all that hate the change, but I am optimistic for its’ new iteration.
I will also mention that, if having a flavor of pet is your thing, there is always BM which is what its’ designed for (not trolling). If Blizzard wishes to appease this outcry, perhaps they can boost the damage profile for those who only want one pet instead of two pets? Like dual-wield versus 2H. That way it can feel unchanged in some way to those who enjoyed the single pet aesthetic of MM. Just my two cents.
Yeah you don’t speak for me and I still hate that survival was changed to melee. BM is not fun to play and I do not want to be forced into it to use my pets.
There is ONE ranged weapon class in the game and they made survival, a very fun spec to play before the change, a melee spec. So now on that singular ranged weapon class, 1 of the 3 specs is melee in a game overcrowded with melee.
There are TONS of melee classes. Hunter didn’t need another melee spec. There are multiple petless ranged classes with long cast times, we don’t need to murder our darlings.
Hunters have pets. If Blizzard wants a petless ranged class they should MAKE ONE. Like Tinkerer.
Or add a 4th spec to rogues “Sniper” that uses ranged weapons. All about stealthing and lining up big shots.
The “Great Change” to Survival? Are you kidding? The most divisive change in class design history, the open wound still festering to this day? That destroyed the fantasy and gameplay for a large swathe of hunter players?
I am bedazzled they are apparently trying to one-up the pugnaciousness of that change with a fresh trainwreck of their own.
This outcry is, in fact, another by-product of that miserable decision. There is no alternative to petless Marks. Ranged Survival was that, was the ranged-focused with pet spec. They chopped that off for a unwanted melee class. There is no refuge anymore. Except, perhaps, WoW’s competitors…
100% this.
Unfortunately I have to disagree with you. Marksmanship lacks a large part of it’s fantasy because you have a pet that largely doesnt hekp you in any instance than PvP and I would love to see an instance where you can opt to have a pet or the eagle, the eagle is an infinitely better way to interact with the game for MM hunters and it fits the fantasy far better than having a random pet that just auto attacks.
If I wanted to play BM, I’d be playing BM.
I enjoy playing MM, and when soloing, I enjoy playing MM with the tenacity pet I’ve had for 20 years.
[edit: Originally, I used to enjoy playing SV, back before they decided the game needed more melee classes.]
I agree, having your pet instead of an eagle would be a great option. and being able to opt in for it or have your pet instead.
justice for howlejandro
free my pup
Can I choose neither? I do not want a pet, nor do I want the eagle. I don’t even want the Sentinel’s poop owl.
But that is for me, specifically. If other people who play MM want a pet, or want a passive eagle, then they should have that option. Honestly, if I could remove those 10 points into my hero talents, I would. I hate their forced pet design.
HOWLEJANDRO LIVES!
You can’t choose neither, but you can now choose both. The eagle you almost never see, and no traditional pet, or the eagle you almost never see and a traditional pet, optionally.
