Blizzard, Please create sub races

With the announced shadowlands customization for races it has made me think a lot about this.

Allied races are fine and all but with the announced customization it has suddenly become very inconsistent.

Blizzard, I believe you should take your losses now and save yourself some pain down the line. Reorganize the entire system.

The creation of a subrace customization option that appears after you select the base race.

I will use dwarves as an example:

You select dwarf at character creation. You are then brought into a menu to select from Bronzebeard, Dark Iron, Wildhammer, and Frostborn. Which you choose will determine the customization available to you and could even determine what classes you can choose from.

In terms of racial abilities they would all share the same racials. Sure this may be disappointing for some but I do believe this will aid in simplifying the system.

Subraces do not need a faction to grind rep with nor a recruitment questline. They would be available immediately upon release.

In regards to how they are released would be as blizzard finishes making them they are released as part of the next major patch. There would be no requirement to have them come in pairs so each faction receives one because by default the various subraces that exist are uneven between the factions.

Now for what separates a subrace from an allied race. A subrace is as the name suggests. It is a subgroup of the base race that has cultural and physical differences. An allied race under this reorganized system would be a race that doesn’t fit into that such as vulpera. Additionally other races that would be considered allied races would be those who base race resides on the opposite faction. Currently this would be nightborne and void elves.

bringing up heritage armor I believe that concept should be expanded on. Having a single set for specific races to show their “heritage” I believe is far too limiting especially once subraces are introduced. Instead I propose making racial armor sets.

As an example I will use the wardens. The warden armor doesn’t make much sense to be used as the night elf heritage armor however it is still something that is iconic and exclusive to night elves. Having this new category of racial armor means no one set has to be made and chosen to be their “heritage armor”. All racial armor would be cosmetic items meaning they can be transmogged by that race regardless of class.

Blizzard, I urge you to consider this. It would be a lot of upfront work but it will save you from having even more work to do down the line when things get even more complicated because you didn’t do it now.

I have many ideas that I frequently post on these forums. You are free to use any of them blizzard. I don’t want credit for them or anything. I would simply like to see WoW fully realized as what it can be.

As it stands I don’t like the stubborn attitude displayed by the dev team. It is hurting the game and blizzard. I don’t like seeing this franchise being hurt because of the stubbornness of the devs. I urge you again to make a change like this sooner rather than waiting until you have to do it and it being a much bigger pain for the dev team.

how else do you plan to post on the forums? it isn’t like I can make it a video.

For a second I thought ‘sub’ races that you pay for. For $4.99 you are lich or something. I giggled.

Says warcraft’s version of lemings.

I really wish Goblins have blue skins like Gilgoblins. I feel they should stand out from Orcs, their skin colors are the same. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

most of the allied races ARE sub races

dark iron dwarves - dwarf
void elves - belfs
lightforged draenei - draenei
kultirans - a new model but its still just a human, the whole different classification is already dumb here
zandalari trolls - troll the race with the most variation i have ever seen
mechagnome - its not even a different race, its just a modified gnome
Highmountain tauren - they are just taurens that got a different horn because of a blessing of a semi-god
Highborne and vulpera are the only true new 2 races we actually got unless i forgot one

exactly my point. So far subraces have been allied races however shadowlands customization preview has shown that other subraces such as wildhammer, sand trolls, blood trolls, ect. are not going to be allied races.

It creates an inconsistency. It makes it feel like these subraces are being treated unfairly compared to other subraces.

also my hope is something like the kul tiran models both big and skinny would no longer be linked to kul tirans themselves but instead usable regardless of whatever human kingdom you have your character come from. Instead choosing kul tiran or lordaeronian, ect. would give your character a different voice and possibily different class selection options. Some could also have a few customization options exclusive to them due to culture particular to that subrace.

Why not???
