Blizzard introduced too many modifiers that affected Flanking Strike from their revamp of Pack Leader, it created an issue with Flanking Strike. Instead of fixing the true problem they blanket nerfed Spearhead talent and rendered the spec D tier for PVP.
The 15% reduction for spearhead in PvP was unwarranted. That change needs to be reversed or compensated for. The “in range of pet” defensive bonus for Survival needs to be increased too. It could stand to be doubled.

Survival damage is still perfectly fine, especially considering we don’t have 4 piece or conquest weapons yet.
The only thing D-tier about survival currently is, ironically, our survivability, because burst is currently too high across the board (mostly because of the degree of gearing possible at this point in the early season); we are made of glass, and pack leader no longer offers a remedy for the damage we’re taking.
Our output is perfectly fine, and pack leader under the appropriate star alignments and talent builds is still nearly globaling people.
god forbid a flanking strike hits for 1.5-2mill. meanwhile we have monks how here hitting me for 2.5-3mill and they dont do jack about it.
pisses me off.

Give us back Den Recovery and increase the dmg to the Merc Blow Bleed to compensate for the FS nerf. This way we wont have the 1 shot burst but our overall dps will be similar.
This I absolutely agree with. Removing that was a very strange design choice.
Also Outland Venom talent doesn’t trigger at all…Not that anyone is running it due to popularity but now that we dont use Killer Companion or SpearHead tree, i was playing around with other ones, and this is one is a dead talent.
Fury of the Eagle is a joke in pvp. I get maybe 15-30% hit rate with it, due to mellee range, stuns and ccs. It can only be paired with intimidation, but i’d rather use intimidation to get away to survive or interrupt on heals/trap…
We actually do still use both of those talents btw.
Part of the strength of the Eagle build is the haste buff from Ruthless Marauder after the cast ends.
I dont use Spearhead anymore. I just dont find it worth it.
You do you, but I find spearhead + flanking strike during coordinated assault to still regularly gib people, particularly as pack leader (but I usually play Sentinel for other reasons)
Are you speaking in terms of pvp or pve? basically all ive heard was spearhead and flanking are garbo now for pvp.
Entirely speaking of pvp.
What makes you think spearhead build is still decent? I heard it got nerfed pretty hard. Especially with our flanking strike nerf.
Experience actually playing it, I suppose.
It doesn’t need to be a one shot to be a powerful component of my burst cycle. I also have 2 piece and can follow it up with buffed wildfire bombs often.

Yes it does. If you’ve played Counter-Strike, it does have to one shot.
Hard to know. Crit is what 1.5 in PvP again? So 30% crit was a 15% increase in damage and a 10% increase in crit damage (both depend on total crit chance) That was still roughly 16.5% effective.
7.5% increase in damage x 10% crit damage for 8.25% effective damage increase with 0 crit.
You still have to consider it applies a dot and requires no further investment. I’ve been experimenting with Fury of the eagle.
Mostly it frees up a lot of talent points investing in kill command to give you 2 more talents to invest into things like more killshots with 1.25 multiplier or auto 30% chance for arcane shot and 3 shot is explosive.
There are a lot of damage talents that provide better uptime there. Hard to say though.

Survival was so much better before 11.1. It’s way over-nerfed. It needs a 15% buff.
Bro making us choose between flanking and butchery and whatever they broke with sentinel killed the spec.
All these complainers about bloat abilities (because they REFUSE to learn how to play the spec the way it was designed) is what caused it.

You’re not telling the whole truth lol… one hit of flanking hit that or harder. It definitely did too much damage after the patch but the nerf to spearhead definitely wasnt warranted I don’t think.
I actually forgot that the Spearhead nerf is bugged and the hunter portion got hit twice.
Hunter has 7.5% crit chance and damage and pet still has full 30%.
I believe Bicmex pointed this out.
We might still get a buff to Survival shortly. Blizz has a bad habit of over nerfing and than buffing slowly over time.
