Blizzard on more support specs;

I saw on wowhead a listing of questions and answers posed to two devs at a content creator summit, and the question of more support specs being added was asked.

Is there any chance more specs can move towards support styles like Augmentation Evoker?

Michael Bybee:
“I don’t think you all want more support classes. I think that would be fantastic. But when we posted the the Priest Hero Spec we got a lot of feedback that it was not what people were looking for. So we made some adjustments there; really, we listened to feedback. That’s the whole reason we’re doing the blog posts about the Hero Talents.”

As someone who really enjoys the general concept and playstyle of a support spec like Aug, but doesn’t like Evoker or Dracthyr; this is a bummer to read.

Many of us do want more supports specs, but we want new specs; not to have existing non-support specs given a supporty hero talent tree.

Means no bard class/spec coming any time soon I’m guessing. Rip. Oh well I didn’t need any more alts anyway.

Im pretty sure after aug released, they had an interview. They said they had no intentions of making another support.

Which makes me sad because it has a lot of potential as well as create balance since we have aug now.

It’s a bummer that they misunderstood the problem with oracle.

I think what we don’t want is for current DPS/heal/tank specs to be changed into a support spec. That’s removing playstyle a people know and love and we saw how that worked with Warlocks and Demon Hunters.

They could still add more specs to be support. Like maybe Infuser Priests who infuse allies with the light/shadow to increase their damage and debuff enemies.

Or maybe a defiler warlock who gains more curses and leans on debuffing to support.

I hope they don’t give up on the role idea as a whole.

Did you actually think they were ever going to do a Bard class?

No but Aug made me think there was like a 2% chance lol

Yep. If only there was another 2 spec class that could easily be given a 3rd spec that debuffed enemies to take more damage and deal less damage. Hmm…

Good. Keep Supports out of wow.

The way I read it is at this time there’s no more support classes being added but specs are being looked at with community feedback.

Could still get a bard class without it being a support class.
The fantasy is whats fun about bard. Not the support aspect.
A non support bard is better.
Thats my stance anyhow.

Don’t give me hope!

I like the concept of a Support role and do like running Augmentation every now and then. Kind of disappointed that they’re not expanding on the role any time soon.

I feel supports in WoW are / would be bit different. Like PreUpdated Shamans with their utility totems. That would be more support that could work. Decent DPS range and damage, Moderate Off heals if needed, unique buffs and debuffs on manageable CDs to balance between trash pulls and boss fights. Things like this could work if brought back, but works fine without as well.

Think the new support ideas is due to FFXI and FFXIV, which is fine, wouldn’t fit in WoW’s setting.

That is what I’m getting at.
Ppl want full blown FFXIV bard and dancer style supports, WoW was never designed with that in mind.

Trying to make any existing spec into a support spec would just make people angry. Any new support specs would have to come from new classes.

Ppl have been saying for years to turn enhance into a tank or support.
Shaman was also the OG support back in tbc/wrath with all of its totems.

i dont understand why ppl dont like support concept, ‘‘bruh its meta in high end dungeons’’ who cares we just want a fun game

Yeah, and people who like enhance as DPS would be quite upset if it suddenly wasn’t anymore.

I think it’s a bad idea to change existing specs into support roles because people play their spec because they like it. Changing someone’s spec isn’t the way to go. Add a support class imo. Support only with 3 specs or maybe just 2 idk

In a way, the past skills removed would… could? possibly be enough to build a tanking spec and allow Shamans to have 4.

As well, I do miss the old totem system. Was fun imho, had a nice feel of offering utility while not officially being a modern support class.

There are those still salty about SV being made melee. (I kinda am, but I just rolled with the punches and putz around with a range on my SV hunter doing only WQs lol). In the end, any change to a class/spec, be it good or bad will get complaints and make people upset lol. Some unwritten bylaw that has been apart of the game for nearly 20years now.
