Back in vanilla and 2019 classic, seal of righteousness was considered a separate attack when triggering “chance on hit” effects. This was a large part in what made them so capable in surviving large AoE pulls as protection.
I just reached level 30 on my holy/protection paladin and have discovered that Seal of Righteousness is no longer triggering “chance on hit” effect on the judgement of Seal of Light.
In this video of a Paladin leveling, he hits mobs with Seal of Righteousness while the enemy is judged with Seal of Light. Often times he would get a double proc of Judgement of Light, healing him twice in the same swing. This is because Seal of Righteousness was considered a separate attack from his regular white hit.
This is no longer happening in 2024. And this is a MASSIVE nerf to Paladins, who were already struggling as tanks.
I am going to assume this is not just limited to Judgement of Light, and the actual cause is from Seal of Righteousness being changed. And if I am correct, then it will apply to every “chance on hit” effect: All consumables, weapon effects, trinkets, armor effects etc.
if this ever happened, it was a bug seal of righteousness just adds bonus damage to your attack. if you want a separate attack for procs, get seal of command.
Bug or not, this is how it was in Vanilla AND Classic. It is what the spec was balanced around, and how it should be. If Blizzard is going to fix bugs in classic, then it would no longer be classic. It was not a game-breaking bug, it was a bug that helped Paladins hold some usefulness.
Many things in game have been constantly changing since 2019. All the work the devs put in to recreate a 1.12 client on modern infrastructure has been watered down since TBC released since the clients were not separated. We lost mechanics like spell batching and received TBC UI changes. SoM, SoD, and Wrath all brought new changes to the client. Last tuesday brought even more changes to spell effects.
This could’ve been changed, but most likely hasn’t, Shaman’s personal windfury counts as yellow instead of white hits. Don’t know if this is a UI error, or if they’re also being calculated as white hits. Seal of Righteousness is most likely bugged and will never be fixed. Corruption (which shares a animation with many other debuffs in game) has been using it’s Wrath effect for over a year. The current developers do not care about maintaining an authentic emulator of 1.12.
