Blizzard needs to remember the theme of the game that people want

Big, epic battles, with cool and badass characters.

These 3 cinematics embodies what made wow so cool for so many people. All memorable characters doing cool stuff (even Anduin wich was impressive).

But now, everything is a soap opera where everyone just cries and moans about everything, while going for the “power of frienship” cringe that was most egredious in Df.

I can only speak for myself, but i’m sure my sentiment is shared by many others. Bring back the epic narratives with larger than life characters and bring the therapy session way the hell down. Then maybe, people will stop so deservingly clowning on Danuser’s writing.

What 3 cinematics? You have the PSTD-Anduin video twice.

It’s fixed now. To be fair, the Arthas story climax was 1 RTS and 4 years of slow-burn in MMO storytelling. We could probably have something like that now, and it’s probably what Metzen wants with the Worldsoul Saga, but those levels of epic storytelling take time. Until you’re on the cusp of breaking that story, it’s all kinda meh along the way.

The BfA cinematic is terrible.

It shows a “For the Horde!” Sylvanas but we now know that was all lies.

Speak for yourself. Some of us grew past our edgy teenage phase.

Eh, to each their own. The cinematic was made before the idea of the jailer was a thing, so i think its cool before sylvanas character assasination by danuser’s hands.

I gotta say as someone who was pushing 30 when I started playing in TBC, that Orcs, Orcs and All About Orcs, not to mention anything Sylvanas neither of those things ever did a thing for me.

Lich King I was just pretty ignorant of, never could play RTS games, like, at all, and I didn’t raid back then so I didn’t even really know the guy other than he sounded like a villain from Scooby Doo. I think in that expansion I leveled a paladin and a druid and my endgame was attempting to farm primal fire and queuing for heroic 5 mans.

Well, I love that cinematic and whomever made the horrid TWW cinematic needs to watch it and take notes.

I remember watching that and thinking Sylvanas was going to be this badass Horde leader but instead we got… whatever she was in BfA.

Also krexus in the shadowlands trailer. The speed in which that character disappears is laughable. :mag::robot:

I, huh, forgot the SL trailer.

Give me like 5 minutes to watch it then I’ll come back and agree with you.

For me it wasn’t those videos it was (354) Warcraft III cinematic: The Death of Grom Hellscream - YouTube
(354) Death of Varian Wrynn- World of Warcraft: Legion - YouTube
and (354) The Wrathgate - YouTube

That and the story of nearly every zone

Yes yes, I’m all for cool characters walking away all cool in slow motion while explosion happen in the background but can we have at least 1 raid that doesn’t take itself too seriously? I’m dying of boredom here. Please.

These are all excellent trailers, but note how Arthas for example is just his father talking to him as he raises Sindragosa. There was no action, just cool shots. I’d argue that we had very cool shots in the recent trailer. The sword in particular had people screaming across all media.

Establishing a personal connection to the primary characters of a story leads to big payoffs when the actual action begins.

What was cool about the Wrath cinematic was that we hear his father talk to him when he was younger as a prince but Blizzard subverts that to be about his dark path as a Death Knight. That beat is an emotional attachment to an otherwise villainous character that had MULTIPLE years across the RTS and the MMO of work to actually matter. It’s why it means a lot to people to hear Terenas talk to him. It’s what makes the song Invincible so touching.

Given that this storyline will last approximately 6 years, establishing context for what Anduin has been going through and his relationship with Thrall is an excellent starting point for the story that is coming. Not only was the cinematic beautifully rendered and acted, but it showed a character at its lowest where he can only go up from here (with some ups and downs on the road to recovery). Now every action scene involving him will feel like some victory on both a combative and personal level.

BFA had three cinematics. Metzen stated that this was going to be an “epic saga” that starts with a heartfelt moment. I imagine we might still get another one or two similar cinematics before/at launch.

Pretty sure this is the first time I’ve seen this.

I’m surprised as this was the ad for shadowlands. I even recall seeing it at Chilis. :robot::tv:

(might be why I remember it so much)

He dies in the first hour of you arriving in maldraxxus. Its kinda embarassing.

That might be what you want, but it’s not what we want. Next

Because he basically dies immediately after you meet him maybe half a dozen quests into the zone (including breadcrumbs). And then he’s just a floaty ghost in the Seat of the Primus the remainder of the expansion, just there to give us Callings.
