Hello Fellow WoWaholics,
People, People take it easy. Blizzard, you need to change the way people view DPS. The new Augmentation spec is not a DPS class, it is an enchantment class. Just like a healer it will not do extreme DPS. So stop basing the class by its DPS. However Blizzard since you forced everything to be viewed through DPS then you need to do one of two things or both.
First Blizzard you need to make a 6 man group instead of 5. The 6th will be for Support only classes. This means besides Aug Evokers you will need to toss in a few more classes like a Bard/Skald, Mesmer/Enchanter etc etc etc.
Second Blizzard you need to have DPS show a plus DPS due to support classes. So they are viewed in a new light. So a warrior normally does say 10k DPS but with the support class they do 12k DPS but with another support they do 15k DPS so this way they see that a good support person boosts their DPS by 50% while a bad one or new one only gives a 20% boost.
Blizzard you do this all the time. You toss something on the wall and hope something sticks. But you forget sometimes you tossed that stuff on a non-stick surface. You toss a new type of player into the world and forget how the last 20.years you have trained everyone. You trained everyone to have a 5 man team with a tank, a healer and 3 DPS. So the obvious thing is to add a 6th slot only for support classes. Or the most likely thing you will do is make it a DPS class because you will cave and do what’s easiest instead of what you should have done from the start. Manned teams would become the following 6, 12, 24, 46. Now this isn’t crazy as I have played many MMORPGs and most do 5, 6, 8 and 10 man teams normally. Before I played Wow way back when it was in Beta I played DAoC and its base group was 8 people. 1 Tank, 1 Off Tank, 1 Healer, 1 Off Healer, 2 DPS and 2 support people. A lot of classes had support in them. For example the Skald/Bard would have DPS but they also buffed things like Crit, run speed, hp reg, mana reg, DPS boost and still did some DPS. But we didn’t have DPS meters back then. You had to just see and make sure people did what they had to do. People also didn’t kick people just because. They would help and improve their fellow players. We also had to plan out attacks as they were so much harder than Wow. It was how WoW used to be in vanilla.
Players. Instead of kicking people because Blizzard screwed up. Flood the forums with fixes like my post. You get more with honey than vinegar. It is frustrating but it is not the players fault remember that. Blizzard has screwed things up like always. They need to fix it and honestly I bet some employees knew this would happen and the upper management tossed them aside. So now what those employees thought will happen is upper management now has to either fix it or change it. But remember it is a game and it is better to be nice to your fellow players.

They are a DPS spec. They will be treated as a DPS spec. They won’t make another role just for 1 spec. They’d need at least 3 or 4 supports before this even becomes a question. I personally do not like the way augmentation is impacting the game at the moment and hope it gets turned into an actual DPS spec (or tank), but that’s just me.
Blizzard has said, Augmentation is a dps spec. It will be a dps spec. Therefore, 5 man group for mythic plus. Problem is Augmentation is OP in that content because of how much utility it brings. It brings tremendous damage output (even with fire’s ignite not being caught on logs) as well as bringin 1000% more utility than any other DPS spec. I think it needs to have utility gutted (tank and healer buffs, off healing, many knockups with upheaval) and just add damage. Many other specs have 1 or 2 useful unique utility buttons. Augmentation has what seems like 6 or 7.
It needs to be treated as a DPS that does it by supporting others. It should not be anymore useful to a group than other DPS spec.

Or I mean we can give it more than 4 days to start demanding for breaking changes and re-designing the whole game just because players didn’t instantly adjust to the new approach that Augmentation introduces…
I mean it is possible that the approach you mention is indeed something that’s gonna be necessary if they want to keep on building more specs like Augmentation but it’s waaaaaaaaaay to early to start making that call, and frankly not even feasible until there are more “support” specs (at least like 4). It’s also only one of many possible routes if it indeed turns out that Augm is too problematic.
Believe it or not but not everyone follows the forums and content creators so there’s players who had no idea something like this was even coming, give it time and people will adjust… Addons (like DPS meters) will also probably need to adjust to start at least giving some estimation so it’s not all only visible trough logs.
They do obviously need to try to fix some of their hooks that are not properly allocating the damage to the Evoker in certain scenarios (like Pets and such) but I mean the fact that they have the hooks (even if they are not yet perfect) means they intend to have those tools available.

Problem with this is, unfortunately blizzard has said that they want augmentation to be represented like this. They want the DPS to be shown by amplifying the other specs around it. Which will either take a long time for everyone to realize, or it will continue to cause issues until blizzard changes that line of thinking.
I believe this is a warcraftlogs issue right now. It is harder to gauge the augmentations damage output truly because of pets and ignite and some other various “gather damage then explode” buttons like Touch of the Magi and Execution Sentence.
I guess that answers my question. I like how they are playing but ive always played supports like this in MMOs when available. Blizzard will have to figure out how to balance it. Me and a guild mate were talking yesterday we hope that it does open the door for more supports as we can easily see shamans and paladins getting similar type of support specs. I can even see something like a warlock getting a supprot curse spec where all their stuff increases how much damage the target takes similar to curses in Diablo.
I do agree, that supports are good for the game. They will bring in more players and new people. They are not my preference but I know it is for others. As a shaman I want a tank spec more than a support spec but shaman does make a good candidate for a support spec.
I just don’t have confidence in blizzard’s balancing ability when it comes to this style of play. I think it will either be mandatory or useless, no in between. If they can manage to balance it, then I will stand corrected. However another side to that is, to make it a support spec, the game will need a fundamental overhaul. A Dungeon overhaul, raid overhaul, a pvp overhaul. All things that would be too much to do and take too much time to implement for a game that’s been going on for nearly 20 years and is releasing a lot of content at a faster rate than ever.

Ive wanted a tank shaman spec since tbc. I used to tank in classic as Shaman.
I think all of this boils down to this right. This is exactly what me and my guild mates said and all of us expected it to come out super strong because Bliz wont release a new spec like this and have it weak. Yes numbers can be tweaked but it will for ever be feast or famin for this spec untill they add more supports to compensate for this one simply existing.
And yes, this game does actually need a fundamental overhaul. Its old, still generally the same game, and they are bleeding. Its that or make a new IP. Both of with take a lot of time, money and people, but WoW already has a player base that wants this game to be better.
