Blizzard lost 29%of its playerbase in three years

Then explain to me how profits are up with less players?

Blizzard doesn’t release subscriber count.

Blizz is dieing bc of the crap, subpar content they put out these days.

As to Blizzard specifically, the company talks up WoW Classic and World of Warcraft Shadowlands , which apparently drove Blizzard’s revenue growth of 7% YOY. Hearthstone appears to be doing well too. The presser reiterates a global launch for Diablo Immortal this year.

This is why it’s important for people to educate themselves on business, earnings and wording.

Otherwise you get posts like these, that think quoting this amounts to any form of proof the players aren’t leaving.

Forget educating on business. Educate on reading comprehension. Pretty clear that most of the posts here didn’t read the article.

The OP linked an article saying it was evidence WoW players are leaving. Here’s what it said:

  1. Activision player base is down (not WoW players).
  2. WoW profits are up, and WoW (and others) are carrying Blizzard to an overall profitable quarter.

Does (1) imply WoW players are leaving? No.
Does (2) imply players aren’t leaving? Nope also.

So you can speculate players are leaving. Maybe they are. But there’s nothing in that article that supports that.

The game has been out for 17 years. The fact that it still has thousands of people still playing is pretty amazing.

1: A third of Blizzard’s entire playerbase leaving implies a loss of WoW players.

2: The cash shop sells things that cost money. Like that six month mount bundle.

Yes, yes it does. You are wrong to think it doesn’t.

It implies profits are up in spite of 1.

Pro life tip: Don’t question someone else’s reading comprehension when yours is found wanting.

Players aren’t necessarily leaving, there are tons of players coming back to play (Classic) and as for Blizzards balance sheet, their stock price is reflecting how effective their managers have been.

Is the game as “fun” as it used to be in past expansions? for me as a casual who would play the AH and professions game the answer is no not as much.

Is the game easier to gear or level a toon? , yes it is so that’s a good thing for casuals, but you better get ready to either spend a ton of time behind the keyboard or get out your credit card to buy tokens to exchange for carries and gear funnels.
They changed the game to be more fluid to appeal to a broader player base and yet still satisfy their shareholders, so far its working in their favor.

Huh? Cata and MoP started at close to 11 million lost something like 3-4 million players each. WoD lost 5-6 million in the first two months. But Ion bad, ok.

You do realize, all I did was quote the article right? There’s no reading comprehension involved in copy paste. You’re the one pretending to have a clue about quarterly reports and the game industry.

So sure of yourself.

Anyway, bashing Blizzard is always popular, so rant on my misinformed friend. I’m sure you’ll get lots of little hearts.

source ?
I know everyone likes to pretend they know the amount of players (and really what does it matter) but as there is no official announcement anymore on sub numbers you are 100% speculating. This thread is just doom and gloom conspiracy theories and speculation about something that matters to very few players.

You know what thread you are in, right?

Whatever, I guess I’ll post it again, it’s old news by now.

“Speculation”.

Stop being in denial, it’s time to accept the fact that Blizzard is dropping the ball.

Nobody is being salty, these are called facts and those facts are being shared.

They do provide MAUs Blizzard wide so across all their games 27 million people played a game at least once a month. COD on the other hand is over 150 million alone. Activision will soon be stepping in to run Blizzard if they aren’t already.

These blizz white knighters are so blind, wow.

It’s like watching an uneducated populous accepting communism.

They are like activists and remind of Antifa.

I note that those figures are for Activision Blizzard as a whole, not just World of Warcraft.

However, it’s not a good number whatever games it points to. Less MAUs has to mean less subs overall. Some people are hooked into the 6 months sub so that even if they don’t log on, they have still given their money. But those like me who pay month-by-month can discontinue their sub (even if in the short term) and go off for other things.

Did it ever occur to them to NOT do dumb things like take our levels, take a stance against flying, constantly change things for the worse? I only play TBC because, honestly new wow sucks SO MUCH!

I bet all of the decisions being made are being made by number crunchers. They look at time played so they think endless grinds are good because it increases things like time played.
