I see his point, whether it’s a troll or not. His argument just isn’t reasonable, as many have already amply demonstrated.
They’d do it if it was profitable, I’m sure. It’d be equally meaningless as it is during Pride month, because they don’t actually care and the only places they’re going to display it are where it’s ‘safe’ to do so. I hate empty gestures like this.
Father, it is over?
I’m okay with them doing it for a whole year just so I can laugh at all the people who lose sleep over it.
I mean, trolling or not this is the next logical step.
There will never be enough representation, progress never stops, regardless of the direction in which its going.
Let us say hypothetically that they did that. That’s terrific and good as far as gestures go, because more inclusion is always a great thing. But now I have to play Devil’s Advocate.
Would the people that were given that representation lose their cool if 1-10 years later down the road, society shifted again and Blizzard supported a group; that the OP or others might not agree with?
That in and of itself should explain why such an idea could do more damage than good. Because it would establish a precedent that Blizzard would be expected to uphold until the end of time, with any given group that felt slighted calling them out over any perceived lack of sensitivity.
That sounds like a lot of work, that in the end only gives a short term boost and could alienate even the OP in the long-term. That’s how it always goes with something as malleable as human culture.
So for the sake of argument, let’s set to the side for a moment ‘all issues’ regardless of what they are. It’s a core fact of human existence that you cannot appease everyone ever. This is why from a business standpoint, a neutral sterile approach to all things is better in the long run for one’s bottom line.
The Rainbow Logo might work for today, what happens if they changed it to red in a few years to support solidarity with X group or nation? What if they changed it to Y to support whatever given issue is the hot-topic of the day, but you found you didn’t agree with it?
I can’t say what you would do. I don’t know you and I won’t judge you man. But think about it at least. Would you accept the next collective championed? Would you do so as gracefully as others of a reasonable mindset would accept this potential change?
…Or would you have a fit on the forums, melt-down on Twitter, and hurl insults at Blizzard for doing so? You’ll note I’m not speaking of any issue, because the matter is an interchangeable one, like society itself changes over time.
Because of that, regardless of WHAT the issue is; if your answer is the second one rather than the first; then you have answered why such a thing should not ever be; and it had nothing to do with your specific issue at all.
Sure, rainbows are pretty, how do they hurt anyone?

Yeah… I know is a double edged sword.
Finally, someone with a brain
Thank you. Not sure that the German Coke Logo should be posted though, since it could potentially cause problems due to the taboo behind ‘that’ loathsome symbol. But the point you make is sound, so I’ll only raise the point as a concern.
Your original post was concise and well reasoned. I appreciated that.
Have a great night man.

I mean at least if the bnet app icon is rainbow I won’t confuse it with the bunch of other apps with similar icons anymore.
Controversial idea:
We should minimum have the choice to customize the client’s design (old versions, rainbow version, new version, and other versions based off Diablo/Warcraft/Starcraft <3)
Awww yes, lets shove more things down peoples throats.
This is a video game, lets try keeping it about the game not things outside of it.
That would be amazing.
Logos like the Blizzard and WoW logos should remain as they are .
The represent everyone regardless of gender or race or what ever .
THey are a symbol of us being unified in our love of the games.
