I was able to play Shadowlands last night no problem. I get home from work today and find I need to do another update. Unfortunately, it wont update. It either just sits at “initializing” or says its waiting on another update, but I don’t have any other Blizzard games installed to update.
Having the exact same issue and it seems a few are on this forum, yet not a single blue post and none of their copy paste responses on reinstalling client/restarting etc work for me either.

If you’re still running into this issue, first try restarting the PC in order to refresh everything and try updating again. If that doesn’t help, try reinstalling the Battle.net app.
- In Windows 10 go to Start → Settings (for Windows 7 open the Control Panel)
- Click on Apps (for Windows 7 click Uninstall a program)
- Uninstall the Battle.net app
- Press Windows key + R
- Type the following into the Run window and hit Enter: %APPDATA%
- Delete the Battle.net and Blizzard folders inside the appdata folder if they exist.
- Repeat steps 4-6 with %LOCALAPPDATA% and %PROGRAMDATA%
- Empty the recycle bin.
Now reinstall the Battle.net app: https://www.blizzard.com/en-us/apps/battle.net/desktop
If it happens to get stuck again, try temporarily connecting through a different network (like a mobile hotspot) or a VPN to see if that gets it to update, then switch back to the normal connection.
I did all these steps this morning and my client still won’t update
