Blizzard killed the fun of having alts

So I see many people praising the rank 3 essences on alts band-aid patch, but am I really the only one that doesn’t care anymore about alts? Too little and too late.

I used to have a lot of fun playing with alts up to Pandaria. Blizzard removed all the fun from that by making the system layering somewhat ridiculous.

I guess in order to play with an alt nowadays you must:

  1. Farm azerite gears with the correct traits for a single role, or farm more gear so you have one for tank, heal, and dps for that alt.
  2. Have your cloak leveled up to the max. This means you need to catch up with all the horrific visions, do dailies on all your alts.
  3. Pray for the RNG on top of RNG of the stupid corruption system (which I honestly don’t get why some people think this system is fun).
  4. An then have all the correct essences at level 3 for your alts. This is what the latest patch tried to fix with a band-aid but it introduced yet another system and currency to deal with, so there’s even a confusing table of what rewards what.

I’m a semi-hardcore player, mostly casual, and the investment I have to make into a single character at this point is ridiculous. Even if I was a hardcore player I’d feel this was bad.

I know hindsight is 20/20 but it’s so sad to see a good WoW expansion (in terms of content) be completely ruined by the game design itself.

I hope Shadowlands fix this but given the latest interviews with Ion, I feel like we’re going to see another fail of game design mechanics again. Why? Because they’re patting on their backs about the awesome systems done in BfA.

Bringing it back to the main topic of this post, I’d like to see less gearing systems so that I can play with my alts and have fun again. Give me more challenges (Mage Tower please) and cosmetic rewards rather than trying to lock me up on a single character and single role.

I understand many people don’t like to play with alts but that doesn’t mean you have to make the experience unpleasant for the rest of us.

Yup if you want to play alts, you have to have no job, have your parents pay for everything and sit inside 14 hours a day to grind litearlly everything in the game cause blizzard does not know what account bound even means.

That’s not entirely fair. There has been a trend towards being more alt friendly since vanilla. However, it’s gone the other way since they introduced essences.

I think the system layering is a problem across the board.

From the WoW sub-reddit.

"The irony of this whole situation is that blizzard wants players to keep playing by putting in these absurd grinds.

But myself, I’m willing to bet a lot of players like me, just don’t.

It’s not like wrath and yes even cata, when I had full time job and was going to college and yet had 5 different characters I played everyday because I was having fun.

Now, I have a lot more free time and I barely maintain two characters and only play a few days out of the week.

Seriously, I’d be playing a whole lot more if I could just get my other toons relatively on par with my main. But I can’t. Have to do these same grinds over and over again.

I’m serious. I work and do chores to get paid and use a tiny bit of that money to buy a WoW sub to play in my free time for entertainment. But once I log in, I have to do work and chores just to get access to the fun parts of the game? What?

That isn’t fun.

Blizzard consistently fails to understand that WoW is a video game for entertainment, not a job or requirement of life.

If players aren’t having fun… they just won’t play."

YOU TELL ME THIS:
How many people were getting Rank 14 on ALTs in Vanilla World of Warcraft in those days while keeping in mind how long it took to level a 1-60 back in those days.

HOLY, FREAKING, COW, IT HASN’T CHANGED

I swear some of you just will never be happy.

A tiny percentage of players, just as only a tiny percentage of players cleared Naxxramas.

In 8.2 I final deleted 18 of my 46 toons. (Yes, they were all 110’s leveled before the pre 7.3.5 leveling nerf).

Of the 24 I have left, I am now down to only playing on 2 mains (Pally & Hunter) 4 more I hop on every once in a while for some fun. But the others I have not even logged into them since before 8.3.

From someone who did the 1st cape quest line in MoP on 8 toons and on all 3 specs. (Have the pics just after getting the capes for them) I’ve only done the BfA cape on 3 of my toons. I don’t want to do it anymore…ever!

So, you want WoD? No thanks.

I don’t mind a good grind once in a while, but this is a bit much for sure. Thank god for Korrak’s Revenge or else I wouldn’t have even leveled some toons I’ve put a lot of time into over the last 15 years. Since it was just on my mind in game, what’s more frustrating is all the RNG pets and mounts they introduced in BfA. Way too many. So incredibly time consuming if you want to collect. This is the first expansion where I’ve really felt that even dedicated players can’t play all aspects of the game.

That was the thing with Vanilla through Wrath. There was content for everyone.

I never saw the ICC raid until the end of Cata. But guess what? It was still there. And I had fun.

Not trying to be elitist, but I just play the game. If people want to rush and fight for cutting edge and stuff, fine. But, Blizz seems to have gutted a lot of things that used to lead up to those cutting edge things, to speed up the process for everyone. And in the end, I personally think it’s made more people unhappy on both sides with the game design.

You need Alts at max gear level for what?

I had a few characters in wod when I discovered ashran toward the end of season 2. By the end of season 3 I had 17 characters in full conquest gear from playing ashran, and 3 even capped.

At this point I’d take wod back.

Not even trying to deal with it at this point. I hate visions so I’m just messing around with alts on world quests and trying out some lobie classes. Figure I’ll do that until quest greens make this gear irrelevant.

What content did non-raiders have in Vanilla and BC?

Shouldn’t have restricted it to rank 3 - rank 1 should have been available if you had rank 1, 2 if you had 2, etc… for slightly less currency.

Would have let me grind the higher ranks on a class I want to play, not feel like I need to go back to one I abandoned with rank 2s just to get essences for the character I want to play - then have to grind the currency to use them…

Rewards folks who stuck with one toon, or have tons of time to play. Does very little for me - who bounced around since 8.2 trying to find a class I enjoy and only logs 2 hours or so a day normally… my own fault I guess, but was hoping for something more from this update.

Eh, I have 17 characters right now in the 430-450 range. Bad essences but this update is going to make things a lot better for them!

I wouldn’t go that far as to assume the situation.

y’all don’t want alts - you want 100 mains
