Blizzard just hired the entire Dev team from Spellbreak

Spellbreak was a Spell based battle royal game (didn’t do that great truthfully) but I wonder if this is them considering a Battle Royal game mode type for Dragon Flight.

They’ve been working with blizz since may supposedly, some have noticed the new DF ui looks similar to Spell Breaks.

Yea here’s a quote from the article I read

“A big part of caring for our teams is making sure we have the resources to produce experiences our communities will love while giving our teams space to explore even more creative opportunities within their projects. Proletariat is a perfect fit for supporting Blizzard’s mission in bringing high-quality content to our players more often.”

Pretty blanket boring statement, but the part about creative opportunities might hint at some sort of new game mode hopefully in WoW. Most likely this acquisition was to bolster the diminishing ranks of Blizz devs, but it also could be they would give Blizzard insight into how to actually accomplish a successful BR within World of Warcraft.

A BR in wow sounds awful.

It sounds awful to a strictly Arena playing individual, but not everyone who PvPs only plays Arenas. They need to do something to revive the PvP scene in WoW. If it’s not World PvP (Which Warmode basically killed) then they need some sort of instanced game mode that is new and fresh.

Reskinning a new Battleground is a garbage idea and will never improve the PvP scene.

Isn’t there a deathmatch brawl already?

Another seething shore wont save WoW.

You posted this in the arena forums.

There is a team death match one I know of.

Seething Shore is just another Battleground, 10v10. I’m talking about a game mode of multiple small teams against eachother. 3v3v3v3v3…etc

Battle royales are boring, no thank you.

I mean that’s a valid point for you specifically. But gaming in this generation and time period says otherwise. Battle Royals are the most successful games out there right now.

Yeah and wow is an rpg, not a battle royale game where you can just drop in and pick up skills.

Who’s to say you can’t have a game mode within a game that breaks the boundaries of the current genre? The Battle Royal won’t change WoW in it’s core at all, it’ll just be another option for people to enjoy and play and try out. I really don’t see a downside to this unless you are talking about Blizzard resources in developing this. But if we want to go down that route I’d argue Blizzard has been miss-using resources for development for a VERY long time and hasn’t come up with anything significant.

Don’t listen to this guy, he thinks just b/c he has a high arena rating, natural good looks, is genuinely talented, and is overall a gigachad irl he can come in your thread and knock it.

I think your idea is fantastic! - Just for a different game…

I wouldn’t consider this my idea, the post was more about speculation of why they hired a team of 100 devs from a spell based battle royal game.

i think it could be pretty fun.

they could literally use every/any zone in the game on random rotation for the maps. we already have bgs that start everybody in a balloon/airships and have hunger games air drops for typical bg buffs. maybe torghast powers for chest loot/player kills? lols.

idk but there seems to be a lot of potential there.

Yea I think they could absolutely do something with a battle royal type game mode. Now I had a thread before discussing the specifics of it and how they would really need to look into CC and abilities that specs/classes should or shouldn’t have that could be ridiculous in a battle royal setting. But I do think it would be possible and if I was a developer or designer working on this new game type it would be really cool architecting this out personally.

I’m willing to bet Blizzard has already thrown this idea around before so it’s def not completely out of the realm of possibility.

i think all current class iterations would be fine in it, the only issue might be stealth but there could just be plenty of “eyes” buffs scattered around to counter act stealth being a free win, plus places for non stealth to hide.

I was more thinking holding someone in “gas” with saps/fears/polys etc continuously. Those kinds of CC wouldn’t be able to go forward in a game mode like that. In most BR game modes the final circle of “gas” will basically kill you in 3 seconds or less.
