nope i dont a$$ kiss so i never will.
Yeah, corporation hire based on subservience, not effectiveness and skill.
And still they make money. Imagine if they had skilled people ⌠huh ?
But I know people consider shut up and doing your job âsubservienceâ ⌠lol
If you go in without any expectations, youâll be fine for a few years. Those who get burnt out and dejected are more often people who go in thinking they can bend the job to suit their needs, but that isnât how it works.
Working a corporate job has nothing to do with that but that was funny.
I asked because being laid off after making a lot of money is normal, mean as all hell, but normal. And to be fair, those laid off are more often than not people in non-essential positions.
Basically, donât work a position that can be easily replaced with someone fresh out of college and youâre golden.
It wasnât always that way. Sure, the pay was always known to be lower than average within the gaming industry, but people USED to fight to work for Blizzard.
It used to be known as a Dream Job in gaming.
Not anymore. Thatâs how far Blizzard has fallen, and fast.
I donât know how to code, so the only feasible positions for me would be custodial, customer service or, and only if providence shed its light upon me, some hitherto unknown to me writing team not also tangled up in technical work elsewhere, none of which but the last have I the least interest in.
So no, the only thing I would trust them to provide is a building high enough to facilitate a leap to my own death when the monotony of either the first or second swells too great for my soul to bear.
Oh $OEâŚhow you broke my Gaming Heart when you gutted SWGâŚ
Except they donât have any issue at all getting people to work for them. And again, gonna need some semblance of proof on the pay thing because I know the cost of living out here in Orange County and way too many people working at Blizzard HQ who can easily afford to live in the area.
Saying âitâs always known to be lowerâ isnât an objective fact, but something generally said by disgruntled employees or people who donât know what theyâre talking about.
No, given the quality of their games lately. Gone are the days of Starcraft: Brood Wars, Warcraft 3: Frozen Throne, and Diablo II: Lord of Destruction. Le sigh.
Iv done Day Labor jobs in florida, probably not much different.
Different time.
Remember, those games launched when there wasnât really anything to do gaming wise on the PC. I mean yes there were games, but nowhere near as many as there are now.
Like WoW, if you moved those games original launch to 2020, theyâd flop because they really arenât anything special anymore. Itâs not just that those people arenât making those games, itâs that there are more people playing games now than ever before and have no real interest in playing those types of games.
I remember reading stories about Blizzard employees living in groups in tiny houses/apartments because they couldnât afford to live alone.
I used to hear from these people âyeah it sucks, but I work for BLIZZARD!!!â
These stories were from a decade+ agoâŚand yeah things change. But seemed a common scenario I heard very often to be completely made up.
Partially, maybe, but they also put their hearts into the games. I canât say the same now.
Thatâs true.
This makes more sense. Back then they were a relatively small publisher making nowhere near as much. But today, if you can work at Blizzard HQ in Irvine and afford to live in Huntington Beach on your own, youâre making more than enough money. I imagine it could get more complex if you are married, have children and are a single income household, but the challenge then isnât from a lack of pay.
I sincerely doubt they donât put their hearts into their games. The amount of time, effort and commitment that goes into making games like this, you donât do it unless you love it. Like another poster said earlier, unless youâre passionate about making video games, youâd use those tech skills somewhere else.
Maybe, but a job is a job to some people and they just want their paychecks. They have a hard time convincing me lately that they care about their games anymore (e.g., Diablo 3 launch, WoD, BFA, WC3: Reforged, etc.)
A game coming out in a bad state has nothing to do with whether or not their heart is in a project.
Those things are due to rushed schedules not because they donât care lol.
ARK is a great example of devs who are in it for a paycheck as they pump out expansion after expansion, never bothering to actually fix anything in their games.
Youâre entitled to your opinion; thatâs fine. I wouldnât attach my name to something like that without feeling it deserved an âAâ quality, but thatâs just me. The question asked was whether I would work for Blizzard, and at this point, my answer is a firm no.
I mean sure, itâs an opinion, but one that is a lot more accurate of the situation in the gaming world now. How you feel about the quality of the game has nothing to do with anything if your boss gives you a hard deadline to get something done. Thatâs just the nature of work.
There is not enough No in the world to describe my feelings about maybe working for Blizzard haha.
True, Iâm saying why I wouldnât work for Blizzard, though. I wouldnât attach my name to a company that is delivering subpar quality games lately. You can want to work for them all you want.
