With the monumental success of these servers it definitely has garnered the attention of the high overlords Activision and their dollar sign tinted goggles.
They can’t be hiring devs for developing new content - the content is already available and pre determined. So what could it possibly be?
There are two possibilities and both are concerning. It could either be a cash shop containing mounts/consumables/other things that will ruin classic or balancing devs who will buff/change classes and will ruin classic.
You should be pretty nervous about this news.

Maybe it’s a classic+ team. Here to create more content meant to drag Classic along for several years.

i hope they add a purely cosmetic version of the pvp gear that has no stats so i can achieve my classic career goal of looking cool while i afk

You can’t patch bugs with marketing and sales, eventually you need to hire someone that can write code. Guessing Blizzard decided to finally fix some issues but then looked around and realized “oh that’s right, we fired them all”.

I think the most logical answer is probably the right one. They’re gearing up for TBC classic. Unless they are hiring game designers, I doubt they plan on touching classic balance, and from what I’ve read it’s mostly engineers.

Sounds awesome, I would love to see classic + and have no doubts the people actually playing classic could help guide the game in the right direction.
Even if it is just to have more people maintaining classic as is, it still seems good to me.

Weirdly I am super apathetic. I guess I just don’t really care what it means.

omg i don’t know if there’s enough time in the day for totally new classic content while also keeping up with retail.

I’d imagine that Classic + would take years to develop. This isn’t to say it won’t happen… I just think it will be a while before we see it.
Having legacy servers for each expansion might be lucrative. Personally, I think TBC and WotLK would be the most popular. The Cataclysm seemed to be when WoW’s popularity really started to decline, and the game seemed to rely more and more on gimmicks to keep people’s interest.

I think they will still have to work on the next expansion pack to get it ready and to “fit” what they already have in place. I can’t imagine it would be as simple as insert a into b.

To be fair if they make new content, then it’s not predetermined. It’s new.
Well there’s more than two I would say.
There’s already a cash shop, they wouldn’t need new hire software engineers to add mounts to the already existing shop.
This could be a possibility. Although they already have a team overseeing Classic. I don’t know how many more spots they’d have to fill to roll out some balancing.
My thoughts are they’re either;
A: bringing in software engineers to get the ball rolling on TBC Classic (most likely imo)
B: brining in software engineers to get the ball rolling on Classic+ content (very unlikely imo)
C: brining in software engineers to balance classes (least likely imo)
Also there’s already a thread with loads of replies concerning the hirings. Feel free to use it next time instead of making duplicate threads.

No this is good news. Means bugs and major issues people have been screaming about will be assessed and fixed faster hopefully.

Why? We already have classic, we just need the +
I don’t view it as an expansion, it’s an ongoing thing where they develop for it over time. This may mean the classic + era could start anytime and we the community began voting on the things we would want to see in game. This model would start us on that road and has also proven effective for the old school game recreations.

If they start screwing up the game with microtransactions or other cash shop shenanigans, I will quit.

I highly doubt they’ll do that.
What would be sweet is if we could get our unarmored epic mounts though…
I don’t plan to play beyond Classic anyway. So I guess I don’t really care.

Yes…but this assumes they won’t screw it up. I’ve been around long enough to know where a crazy assumption like that will get you…this is ActiBlizz.
