Let’s face facts; Classic WoW is hugely popular (and will continue to be popular) and has pulled in more subscribers than Blizzard has seen in the past 10 years. Retail is dumpster fire with empty servers and soccer mom mobile style gameplay. Which version of WoW do you think Blizzard is going to focus resources into?
As a classic fan myself, you’re wrong. They’ll be doing the bare minimum to maintain classic, however what you might be pleased to hear is that classic-influenced changes to retail are inevitable.
I mean, it’s either that or they lose all that playerbase when classic content becomes final. Pretty sure the dollar is very important there.
Troll alert. Classic is fading away already and not even in phase 2. Retail is the money maker (as people buy expansions, store mounts, tokens, etc.). Subscriptions cover both.
i check classic server population every day and between 1am and 6pm every day the servers are low to medium. i go to bed around 7 which is around prime time but even then most of them aren’t high let alone full.
It’s not mostly done. They had to rebuild Classic from the ground up because the code was long gone and turned into this giant maze that is retail.
Sure, they don’t need the decade to do it that they originally did, but if you think it’s as simple as cut and pasting some code then you’re in for a shock.
Its not mostly done it is done they are just gating the content to milk people for sub money because they cant figure out a way to put a in game shop in there yet.
I mean aren’t they going to / didnt they already remove layering soon? If blizzards bad server side can handle the entire realms without layering or sharding now I mean that alone speaks to population in classic when WoW starts to lag to high crap and drop even $2k rigs to 3 fps when 40+ people do something like a BG.
