Blizzard is censoring harsh words in game now

Nice. Now when can we expect the booster ads moderation?

GMs never policed chat in the way you’re describing. IF they were on the server dealing with other issues then they may pop in and warn people not to post certain messages, but from the get go of WoW’s launch there were too many servers and too many locations for Blizzard to monitor even 5% of the chat.

But to your other point, what content is in the game has no bearing at all on the rules we’re required to follow. Besides, I’m fairly sure the one word that people keep referring to when they bring this point up (which happens during the conversation between Sylvanas and Garrosh in Silverpine) was removed entirely.

Their new censorship won’t catch that either- typing around chat filters is another thing entirely, it’s basically exploiting a game mechanic- and exploits should be punishable.

There’s plenty of letters and symbols to improvise with to get a point across to circumvent the system.
Look at this as “preventive measure” by ActiBlizz to cover their rear in case cancel culture/wokeism comes for them.

Ban names with alt codes next, far worse than any number of n words combined.

it’s wild to me that so many people here can conceive of no more important freedom than “saying the f-word and also gamer words a lot”

THIS.

THIS will fix the game.

I’m very happy they decided to spend time and resources on this big, overshadowing and player-oppressing issue.

Now we can all play happy, can’t we?

…I could swear this game always had a word filter, pun intended.

Anyway, if the censorship targets racial and sexual slurs and is smart enough to not yield false positives, good. I want people who use language like that to abuse others to feel uneasy. I want them to adapt or leave. Sink or swim. You get the idea.

Anything beyond that is too much, though. Save the Roblox word filters for April Fools.

Can they ban the words “DPS” and “RIO”?

And here it is, the day when we replace all those words with alternatives

I wonder what the list is. Is it just derogatory slurs or what?

As a blood elf I hope that Knife Ear makes it on the ban list.

From the article:
“As of right now, only one racial slur appears to have been added to this filter“

and “kek”

So 2008.

if only they could add some sort of adult language filter to allow players to moderate their own playing experiences.

This is another amazing feat on Blizzards part.

My brain was burning with this very thought the day I said the F word in chat and someone actually pulled the “think of the children” crap on me.

USE. YOUR. FILTER!

Not sure if I care about this or not. I don’t swear irl, so it’s not gonna bother me. But on the other hand, I don’t care for censorship like this.

As long as they don’t take it too far, it probably won’t be a big deal.

Although the ability to censor words yourself (like setting up macros) would be considerably better. People will find a way to counter this, so if you don’t want to see the same words but bent around the system, while allowing other people to see whatever they want, it may be a more dynamic approach

Doesn’t seem to work in whispers either

How does this work?

I still say they should add the badboy style filter to the game so players can add their own words to the filter

I think it’s cute how they put more effort into censorship than the actual game.
