"Blizzard is a small indie company"

I mean multi-billion dollar corporation
and yet after all these years they can’t do anything but “monitor” a DDOS attack that has shut down everything?? hm.

Well, realistically, it’s a collaboration of human beings who are just as flawed as anyone else. The fact that Blizzard or Activision have a high estimated value doesn’t really mean much, especially when budgets and deadlines and mandates take place and exist.

I understand your frustration, but, you have to understand that right now someone is probably worried that they’re going to lose their job… and it’s because of something that is completely out of their hands. Sure, we can make fun of that person, but why would we?

who cares bro
we’re paying a lot of money to play and they can’t figure this out after 20 years ?
they’ve been ddos’d so many times over the years and they drop the ball on it every single time, and their only excuse is “we’re monitoring the DDOS attack”. As in… nothing they can do at all, just hope for it to be over?

In your expert technical opinion, how does one block thousands of bogus packets while allowing legitimate packets through?

This is more a network engineering issue and pay systems/account systems issue. So you cannot really pin this on the primary game developrs.

Its funny because all they had to do was check the box in permissions that said “do not allow ddos” when they installed the servers. Boy i sure hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

I’m gonna be honest here…Blizzard games are literally the only ones I’ve played that get this many DDOS attacks.

What’s up with that?

They’re an awful company that does awful things to their employees and consumers, so some people feel justified doing this as a twisted brand of “justice”?

true, I have never seen a ddos on any other game I have played

Anyone with empathy.

Couldn’t tell you. Either you simply notice it happening more because you’re engaged with their products more, or it literally happens more often. But, I don’t think it actually happens that often, we just hear a lot of complaining when it does.

You know all those post screaming how “this community sucks”? Nothing to do with it I’m sure, but I do hope the spoiled child that did this gets his new title.

Runescape gets ddosed from time to time though its usually happening to specific players either for revenge or so people can kill their character for the expensive gear.

regardless of Blizzard’s response, people who DDOS to grief are pure scumbags

It is actually just DDOS awareness month!

To be fair for me it got fixed faster than I expected. I kinda didn’t expect to be able to log on at all today. So Kudos to the blizz for that.

Multi-dollar company

The business I work for has suffered a DDoS attack 4 times in the last 18 months… The FIRST attack shut us down for almost an hour.

The last 3 attacks have shut us down for a COMBINED TOTAL of FIVE minutes.

And we don’t have anywhere NEAR the IT staff Blizz has. Our top brass just decided after the first attack that we would be ready the next time.

We don’t study the attack or monitor the attack… We just shut it down and get back to business.

How?

Well, to be also fair, your company probably faced much smaller ones.

Blizzard is so extremely mismanaged internally, that their output is on the same level as a small indie company.

I think they are perpetually stuck training new devs that then get burnt out and quit over the culture, it’s just constantly churning over there. I never hear good things out of Blizzard.

…not all ddos attacks are the same.
