Hi there!
I am using a GTX 1070. Since towards the beginning of BFA and before, I was running at like 120-150FPS. Now? Roughly 70. It also will dip quite low during certain spell effects. This is the only game the decrease has happened in by the way.
Has anyone else noticed a substantial decrease in FPS since 8.3 and onward or is it just me?
Update:
Apparently blizzard added some sort of slider to cap FPS and check the box on for that slider at some arbitrary lower FPS number as the default.
I’m going to check if this is real.
Omg it is real… Seriously blizzard?
It is set at a cap of:
max foreground fps 100
target fps 60
Just turned it off and now at 144 - 190 fps.
I don’t have a 1070, so I can’t compare directly but no. If anything I’ve seen an FPS increase as they’ve made better use of the DX12 API to parallelize things and use my CPU and GPU better.
What API are you currently set to and what is your general setup? If you want more direct help the Tech support forum is probably the better place btw.
Check your settings, they put a “desired cap” slider in and checked the box for you. Why? I have no idea…
I swear. The devs of this game more and more often make wonder why they make the decisions they do. No other game I’ve ever played made this many pointless or negatively impacting changes for apparently no reason.
What are you even referring to?
So that’s what happened. I never noticed this.

Omg it is real… SEriously blizzard?

I mean its kinda great that they have a max fps slider.
As for it being set low, when pre-patch landed it was moved up to 100fps on my pc. I have it set to 80fps as my monitor is capped at 75hz.
Same thing happened to me… I just turned it off. I had no idea what was going on. My fps was lower and I was like “maybe my settings are too high now?” so I lowered it… and it didn’t change.
Guess I should have paid attention to the advanced window.
Pro tip: Always go through the settings after a major patch.
Yeah apparently. You never know what kind of poor decisions will be made to make your graphics card run like a 30 dollar used GPU from eBay apparently, by default…
Turn off verticle sync then turn off fps cap in advanced settings… these 2 settings were automatically enabled after the prepatch download.
I was capped at 60fps till i turned both those off and now im getting 130fps.
Blizzard actually optomized the game better with 9.0 cause before I got 90fps
But guys Target FPS is actually a good thing if you don’t like frame rate drops.
Set your target FPS to 100 and it will adjust game settings as you play so even when the spell effects get out of hand you still get 100 fps because it will automatically lower the settings and you will never notice FPS drops.
I would say sure, but the issue is they enabled verticle sync too without asking. Considering my monitor is a 140 refresh rate or whatever, it bugs me that the cap was set to 100 fps with a target of 60. Just seems really off to me. Maybe I don’t know enough about this stuff and I sound like a dumb dumb. I just can’t imagine they had set it better than what I have it at now.
In terms of the oversights of the dev teams during this patch, its pretty low on the list. You can’t even queue as a monk tank in certain dungeons rn.
Do you know which? I gotta see this with my own eyes on my brewmaster lol
