There are many bosses that is much easier when you 3 tank them including this raid like Broodmother and storm night elf boss. So I really don’t see this a big challenge for Blizzard.
Gearing up tanks is easy. It’s the easiest role in the game. Even in bad gear they easily survive standing in “bad” much longer than the other roles. On top of that, m+ tank slots are quick to find so there is a steady supply of gear from outside the raid, so the tanks still end up being better geared than the rest of raid.
I remember in S4 trying to farm valor in +2 keys and you couldn’t get into them because the tank spots would be taken immediately as soon as keys got posted.
So you are stating that the enormous amount of tank shortage posts over the years on these forums and Reddit were just from people lying? If you even search the term “tank shortage” into this forum the posts are endless lol. Asmongold playing as a tank and making videos on how OP they were to his audience did help alleviate some of it this expansion.
I think the “tank shortage” posts are from people with short attention spans who think the entire world is there to service them and freak out and run to the message boards the instant something doesn’t go their way.
The same people who complain when they run a dungeon (or LFR) and other people get loot instead of them.
The same people who ask to speak to the manager when they do a scratch-off game at McDonald’s and didn’t even win a free order of french fries.
If you even Google “WoW tank shortage” there are countless posts about the tank shortage since the beginning of this game. I highly doubt everyone was just lying about that lol.
You can also find videos on youtube with millions of views explaining that the earth is flat and Antarctica is actually the ring of frozen mountains that circles it to keep people from falling off the edge.
Why should I believe you and not the consensus? There has been a general agreement over the last 18 years that there is indeed a tank shortage in WoW, this is based on data from a high number of posts stating so and not just from one random player in the WoW forums stating the contrary. I think someone is lying and it’s not the consensus.
It happens in group finder too. All the tank spots are usually already filled and you have to wait if you are a tank or create your own group. Or wait for a tank of those groups to leave for having a chance to enter.
Dramatically overblowing the perceived number of tanks because their 5 man pug took longer than they wanted to fill? Absolutely.
I can’t think of a time since vanilla that I’ve been in or known anyone in a guild that didn’t have 4+ members ready to take any tank spot that opened up. None of those folks need to pug, and most won’t bother with the attitudes when they have full friends lists and guildies to tank for.
A shortage of people willing to be abused by pugs is what we really have.
When there is data to back up claims that there has indeed been a tank shortage in WoW for the last 18 years like from posts or from articles such as in a recent Blizzard Watch article that states, “One of the most persistent complaints among people running Mythic+ dungeons in World of Warcraft is how hard it is to find a tank.” I think I will go ahead and take that then from a couple of people on a forum post stating otherwise with no evidence, no offense. If you want to educate yourself, you can check out the article titled,
“The biggest problems creating tank shortages in Mythic+ dungeons and how to fix them.”
World of Warcraft players have been complaining about the difficulty in finding tanks to run Mythic+ dungeons for many years now. There are a few potential causes for this issue. One is the gear barrier for tanks, which is higher than it is for DPS players as you can see from the comp for the world first raiders. In order to be effective in Mythic+ dungeons, tanks must have a good gear level. Another potential cause is the high knowledge requirement for tanks to be effective in Mythic+ dungeons. They must know every pull in every dungeon, how to handle different affixes, and the route, and be able to tailor their knowledge to the needs of each group. Tanks may also be treated poorly by pick-up groups, which can lead to a lack of motivation to tank for them. Finally, the tank role may be seen as less fun or rewarding compared to DPS (i.e. hitting big numbers), leading to a lower number of players willing to play as tanks.
Data is anecdotal complaints. You can’t even tell how many of them are from individual players.
It’s always been easier and faster to gear tanks in wow though.
An irrelevant measure for the other 99.9% of us.
A legit issue, made worse by the fact that many pug DPS act like they have no responsibility for knowing anything and expect the tank to do it all, often leading to:
I actually posted an article for evidence, I have yet to see any evidence that you posted on the contrary.
Then you obviously never tanked BFA. For example, you’re a Paladin. As a Paladin tank in BFA you had to fight against rng in order to get tanking gear from the azerite power “Bulwark of Light” on all your azerite armor pieces.
fights wouldn’t need redesigned as much as many think… think of tank swaps… make the stacks last longer and the damage more so they have to use more tanks… add a mechanic where an attack needs more than 1 tank to absorb or it kills the one. there are plenty of ways to do it and make it engaging…
best example i have is like kurog. For every 5 an add spawns that have to be tanked by only 1 tank if tanking multiple the tank will be crushed. you can still have the 2 main mechanic adds but the extras are just there for flavor and something to do.
Great, now we can have 5 terrible tanks for every good one. Doesn’t matter of it’s lfr or pug m+ most tanks are bad, and don’t learn mechanics. If you are a good tank and want more action find a way to get all the terrible tanks to switch to a DPS spec.
An article based off anecdotal complaints. There’s no actual data to be evidence in there.
That’s ok, I have access to plenty of groups to get gear, and tanks have always been effective enough without being bis. There’s a reason serious groups stop focusing on gearing tanks once they have basic survivability for the encounters.
Yep, tanks always get geared last. It’s just accepted in progression raiding.
Any need for more gearing on tanks can be handled by proper use of externals instead, while the gear goes to the DPS, who make use of it 100% of the time during fights, instead of just needing it occasionally.
